On the brink of losing her voice and in turn, her acting career, Sweta Keswani has just managed to pull herself back from going into oblivion. It was three years ago that Sweta was diagnosed with a cyst in her throat that got worse with each passing day.

“Out of nowhere in mid February, I suddenly discovered after a recurring throat infection for many years that I had a juicy cyst (a medical term for a large cyst in the throat) in my left vocal flap. I was shaken. I was told to talk as less as possible. Few days later I was barred from even whispering. Later on, I was told that surgery was the only option,” says Sweta.

Sweta then started making rounds of the best doctors in Mumbai. “While some said I would get back my voice, others said it’ll go forever. Some said my voice might change a bit, but they couldn’t say for better or worse,” she adds.

As she set up an appointment with Dr Peak Woo, one of the best ENT surgeons in the world, a ‘miracle’ (as she terms it) happened. “My friend and actor Surrinder Kaur (who played Saif Ali Khan’s mother in Parineeta) introduced me to a naturopath Dr Vijaya Venkat. She put me on a crazy diet. I was off wheat, iodized salt, sugar and meat among other things,” Sweta says.

“Just last week when I did my endoscopy again the report was phenomenal. The cyst is almost gone. I can’t express my feeling in words. It’s just unbelievable that a there’s still a cure called naturopathy where the body heals itself,” ends a very happy Sweta.
