The Supreme Court will hear a petition on Tuesday by filmmaker Prakash Jha seeking the lifting of the ban on his film Aarakshan in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

An apex court bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir earlier said the matter will come up for hearing at 2pm on Friday.

The court passed the order after senior counsel Harish Salve and Mukul Rohtagi sought directions by the court for lifting the ban imposed by the three state governments on the grounds of public order.

Aarakshan, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, deals with the sensitive issue of caste-based reservations in the Indian education system.
