It was a double treat at the 14th Annual Wharton India Economic Forum where among other speakers, there were two prominent names from India — sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and actor Vidya Balan.

“It was the 14th Annual Wharton India Economic Forum. WIEF is an annual India-centric conference hosted by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Since its inception 13 years ago, WIEF has been the leading business forum focused on India in the United States.

The theme for this year’s conference was ‘India: Breaking Boundaries’ and the focus was on bringing together prominent personalities and leaders to discuss how India continues to position itself to compete and succeed in the rapidly changing global environment. He (Ustad Amjad Ali Khan) was one of the panellists for the discussion from India,” says a representative of the sarod maestro. Khansaab, who was still in the US, confirmed the development through his spokesperson.

“He also spoke about classical music and how young people need to be lured to practice the art. The students were very inquisitive even after the lecture was over and many of them met him personally with queries,” the representative added.

On the other hand, Vidya Balan spoke about — what else — but Bollywood. Reveals a friend of the actress, “Vidya Balan spoke on how mainstream Indian cinema is going global in every way possible as international production houses are producing Indian films, and how Indian movies are being watched by over 90 countries and are consistently recognised across international film festivals”

Vidya was part of the panel that discussed the achievements, shortcomings, and future prospects of the Indian film industry.
