As Edtech company Unacademy fired one of his tutors, social media outrage broke out on Twitter. A teacher named Karan Sangwan has been fired by edtech company Unacademy for urging students to support candidates with educations.

Announcing that he will post information about the controversy on August 19 on his own YouTube channel, Sangwan has just launched the platform. Unacademy, an online learning platform, is receiving a tonne of negative feedback on social media for firing a teacher who had urged students to vote for educated leaders.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has also commented on the subject and questioned whether urging citizens to vote for an educated candidate constitutes a crime. Roman Saini, a co-founder of Unacademy, responded to the online criticism by claiming that Sangwan had broken his contract and that as a result, the business had to fire him.

“We are an education platform that is deeply committed to imparting quality education. To accomplish this, we have established a stringent Code of Conduct for all of our educators in order to guarantee that our students have access to unbiased knowledge, according to a tweet from a co-founder.

How did the controvery begin?

Karan Sangwan expressed that all the notes he created on criminal laws became useless as a result of the government's decision for replacing the colonial-era IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act. In a video that has gone viral on X (previously Twitter), Sangwan is heard saying, "Even I have no idea whether to laugh or cry since I also have a lot of bare acts, caseloads, and notes that I had set up. Everyone has to work very hard. You now have a job as well."

"However, bear one thing in mind. To avoid having to go through this (ordeal) again, choose an educated candidate to represent you the next time. Okay?" he adds, as reported by Hindustan Times. "Select an intelligent, knowledgeable candidate. Vote against anyone who only knows how to change names. Make an informed choice," he further added.

Unacademy fires Karan Sangwan

Roman Saini, a co-founder of Unacademy, claimed that Sangwan had violated the organization's "Code of Conduct" and that as a result, the firm had to fire him. "Everything we do is centred on our students. Personal views and opinions should not be discussed in class because they may inadvertently influence the students. As a result of Karan Sangwan's violation of the Code of Conduct, we were forced to part ways with him in the current circumstance," Saini wrote in a tweet.

Who is Karan Sangwan?

Karan Sangwan attended the National Law University in Shimla, according to his Unacademy profile. He spent about a year working at C. R. Law College in Hisar. His platform following is 14,000 and he has been a teacher at Unacademy since February 2020.

Sangwan also manages the Legal Pathshala YouTube channel, which has more than 45,000 subscribers. Sangwan has taught a lot of courses about the entrance exams for the judiciary.
