The government has banned Letrozole, a drug used for induction of ovulation among women suffering from anovulatory infertility. The drug has been banned after it was found to have caused severe side effects.

“The Centre is satisfied that the use of the drug Letrozole for induction of ovulation in anovulatory infertility is likely to involve risk to human beings and safer alternatives to the said drugs are available,” the health ministry said in a notification. Letrozole has been banned globally, but is still used in India.
