BJP releases first list of Lok Sabha candidates: Here are all the details
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with Prime Minister Narendra Modi again contesting from Varanasi seat.

1.PM Modi to contest again from UP
As expected PM Modi will be fighting from Varanasi. Other top leaders are also fighting from the seats from where they had won. In total, 28 UP seats have been announced.
Rajnath Singh: Lucknow
Smriti Irani: Amethi
Sakshi Maharaj: Unnao
Satya Pal Singh: Baghpat
VK Singh: Ghaziabad
Hema Malini: Mathura
Mahesh Sharma: Gautam Buddha Nagar
2.Amit Shah to fight from Gandhinagar
In a major decision, Amit Shah, who is currently a Rajya Sabha MP will be fighting Lok Sabha election from Gandhinagar. PM Modi who contested from Gujarat last time around is unlikely to do so this time as Amit Shah will be leading the charge in the state.
3.Jai Panda from Kebrapara
Baijayant Panda will be fighting from Kebrapara. Former IPS officer Aprajita Sarangi will be fighting from Bhubaneswar. Rudra Narayan Pany from Dhenkanal, Pratap Sarangi from Balasore, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo from Balangir. In total 9 out of 20 seats have been announced for Odisha.
4.Union Minister Rathore from Jaipur Rural
Like last time, Union Minister Rajya Vardhan Singh Rathore will be fighting from Jaipur Rural. Gajendra Singh Sekhawat will be contesting from Jodhpur. Arjun Ram Meghawal will fight from Bikaner (SC). BJP has announced 16 names for Rajasthan.

5.Babul Supriyo will look to retain Asansol
BJP has released 28 names for Bengal. There are no major surprises in the list. Former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh will be squaring against TMC candidate and Bengali movie superstar Deb from Ghatal. Babul Supriyo is fighting from Asansol. From the list, it is clear that BJP is still hoping to get some good candidates to defect from other parties. State Party President Dilip Ghosh is fighting from Midnapore.
Arjun Singh, who joined BJP last week has been given ticket from Barrackpore. He will contest against sitting MP Dinesh Trivedi.
6.Sadananda Gowda from Bangalore North
21 seats for Karnataka has been announced. Out of which, Sadananda Gowda will be fighting from Bangalore North, BY Raghavendra will be in fray from Shimoga, A Manju will be contesting from Hassan.
7.Gadkari to contest from Nagpur
In the first list, BJP has also released 16 names for Maharashtra. Among the notables, Nitin Gadkari is fighting from Nagpur, Roasaheb Danve from Jalna, Subhas Bhamre from Dhule, Poonam Mahajan from Mumbai- North Central.
8.KT Alphons from Ernakulam
Post Sabarimala agitation, BJP has high hopes from Kerala. Party has drafter Union Minister Alphons to fight from Ernakulam. Senior BJP leader Kumannam Rajasekharan will contest from Thiruvananthapuram. BJP has announced 13 seats for Kerala.
BJP has also announced 5 names from Tamil Nadu and 11 from Telangana.
9.Union Minister Kiren Rijiju from Arunachal East
BJP's prominent north East face Rijiju will be fighting from Arunachal East. Party has also announced 8 seats for Assam, all 2 for Tripura, Arunachal, 1 for Sikkim among others.
10.No Himanta Biswa Sarma
Despite intense speculation, the BJP first list didn't feature Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is instrumental in bringing BJP to North East's political map. Later Amit Shah issued clarification on Twitter that the party wants him to focus on North East. He acknowledged that there was a demand to get Samra a ticket from the state unit and hoped that Assam unit would accept the decision taken.
