Over 500 people have been displaced from the low-lying areas near the Yamuna river. Flood alert advisories and announcements shall be made by the Delhi government on Monday. A high-level meeting was called by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to check the current flooding situation and the preventive measures that can be taken in the present situation. Delhi Government has identified around 15 vulnerable areas in the capital where the water level has crossed or is on the danger mark.
Around 5 lakh cusecs of water was released from Haryana's Hathini Kund barrage on Saturday evening. However, Yamuna's water level at the Hathinikund barrage has danger mark of 90,000 cusec and with incessant rains it is expected increase further.
"We are shifting the residents to the nearest high-ground areas. Tents have been set up on the ground and from Monday we will be serving food to the people too. Other facilities like toilet, drinking water, power, medicines, ambulance services will be made available for the people living in these areas," said a senior Delhi government official.
