Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency: Candidates for 2019 LS poll, past results, all updates

Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency: Polling in all 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu will take place in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 18. In 2019, the key contest here is going to be among DMK's S Jagathrakshakan and PMK's AK Moorthy (who has been a former union minisnter in the state) from this seat. AIADMK has not fielded its candidate in Arakkonam constituency and has allotted the seat to its alliance partner PMK.

The two major parties in Tamil Nadu — AIADMK and DMK — has entered into an alliance with a number of parties for the forthcoming elections. 
 
AIADMK is contesting the election in alliance with BJP, PMK, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress. While MK Stalin-led DMK has aligned with Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.  

Formed in 1977, Arakkonam constituency has six Vidhan Sabha segments and 1,098,607 voters, as per 2009 census. Arakkonam town is located in the Vellore district. According to 2011 census, the total population of the town is 78,000 out of which 38,600 are males and about 39,200 are females.

Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency results in 2014, 2009, 2004

2014: G Hari (M) of the AIADMK had received 493534 votes who defeated NR Elango (M) of the DMK with a margin of more than 2 lakh votes. NR Elango had secured only 252768 votes. 

2009: S Jagathrakshakan of the DMK had secured 415041 votes and defeated PMK's R Velu with a margin of more than 1 lakh votes. R Velu had secured only 305245
votes. 

2004: R Velu of the PMK had got 386911 votes. He defeated ADMK's N Shanmugam with almost a margin of 1 lakh votes. Shanmugan had secured 284715
votes. 

The state of Tamil Nadu has 39 parliamentary constituencies out of which seven are reserved for SCs (Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam). However, no seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes in the state.
