CPI(M) asks Jammu & Kashmir govt, Centre to desist from 'blame game'

The CPI(M) today asked the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre to observe restraint and desist from the "blame game" between them while dealing with the tense situation in the valley over killing of civilians.

"The situation should not be seen through the prism of law and order problem, nor as an issue of whether the state police or CRPF is responsible for the present situation," the party state secretary MY Tarigami said in a statement here.

Apparently referring to state law minister AM Sagar's remarks holding CRPF responsible for the killings, Tarigami said "CPI(M) believes the blame game between central and the state governments over civilian killings will draft the situation towards more chaos and both are expected to respond to the situation with a rational and humane approach".

He said the present situation is manifestation of the long pending "political discontentment among the people of the state and demands serious political process, dialogue and deliberations.

"The political initiatives taken by India and Pakistan a few years ago had undoubtedly given the people of the state a ray of hope but unfortunately those political processes have come to a halt," the left leader noted.

Tarigami said the state government with the help of the Centre should address genuine grievances of the youths "who feel disillusioned".

He also appealed to the people to be cautious against vested interest exploiting the situation.

"We firmly believe that the people have the right to protest, but they should remain cautious, least their sentiments can be exploited by the vested interests for their nefarious designs at the cost of blood of the innocent people," the CPI(M) leader said in the statement.
