Dhruva case: Was kingpin held from cement factory in Ahmedabad?

"An angry crowd is following my car … met with an accident… please save me … I am hiding in a cement factory in Bagodara." Chintan Desai, the kingpin of the Dhruva Patel kidnapping, called his father-in-law on his way, pleading to rescue him by sending some help.

Desai's father-in-law eventually called up a police inspector friend and requested him to save his son-in-law. The policeman, posted at a police station in Zone 1, first informed the control room.

However, when he learnt later that Dhruva's kidnappers had also met with an accident he gave the address of the cement factory to the control room.

The police inspector, who requested anonymity, told DNA that Desai's father-in-law too was in the dark about his criminal act and asked for help from his police friend to rescue his son-in-law from the angry crowd.

"The reality was different, Desai was trying to escape from the police officials after his car meet with an accident," the PI said. He also said that, as the Zone 1 police officials were involved in the operation, he was aware about the kidnapping case. "I later on gave the exact details of the location of Desai to the police control room, and eventually he was arrested," the PI said.

"Desai's father-in-law too did not know the facts and he was genuinely asking for help," he said. The claim of the police inspector, had, however raised doubts about the theory of the arrest of Desai as shown by the Detection of Crime Branch. The DCB had said that Desai was arrested from near Narol Circle during a patrolling drive by its officials.
