The West Bengal Chief Minister pointed out that projects announced by her as Railway minister had been implemented despite doubt raised by the Marxists.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that the CPI(M) should not seek accountability of her fledging regime and pointed out that projects announced by her as Railway minister had been implemented despite doubt raised by the Marxists.
"I will show you that we will be able to do in five years what you could not achieve in 35 years. In last 35 years, the Left Front did absolutely nothing for the state's development," the chief minister said after flagging off four express trains in this East Midnapore district town.
"CPI(M) is a store of canards. I will deflate that store, besides unearthing conspiracies against my government," Banerjee said.
The chief minister asked the CPI(M) not to dare to seek accountability of her government before it completed a five-year term.
She said that implementation of railway projects had dispelled CPI(M)'s claim that foundation of projects laid by her during her tenure as Railway minister would not materialise.
"During my tenure as Railway minister, West Bengal received 14 railway projects which created lakhs of employment opportunities," she said.
Banerjee alleged that the CPI(M) was trying to divert attention from development initiatives of her government "with cases of arson, efforts to set off riots and false campaign by TV channels at the behest of friends. But people will not tolerate this."
Brushing aside allegations of farmers' suicide because of non-availability of support price of paddy, Banerjee said "I will not take any advice from the CPI(M) on protection of the interests of farmers. It was I who went on a 26-day fast on the Singur issue. It is I who championed the cause of the farmers of Nandigram."
Alleging that the CPI(M) was protecting rice dealers, Banerjee said "under the present arrangement, there will be no role of middlemen. That is why a farce is being enacted.
"My love for farmers is no less than others. Such campaigns are motivated," she said.
Banerjee said that her government had formulated a land policy which was against forcible acquisition of farmland.
Banerjee said her government had already decided that there would be no chemical hub at Nayachar in the district and that it would go ahead with an Eco-tourism project.
Referring to the 'misdeeds' by the CPI(M), Banerjee said "I used to warn that there were man-made floods during the previous regime, which came to be true."
Banerjee alleged that the Left Front government had embezzled crores of rupees and many files were missing in various departments.
She said that the South Eastern Railway had provided jobs to 184 persons whose land was acquired for laying the Nandigram-Deshpraan tracks.
The trains which were flagged off were the Digha-Puri Weekly Express, Digha-Malda Town Weekly Express, Digha-Visakhapatnam Weekly Wxpress and Kharagpur-Villupuram Weekly Express.
