IITGn students bag prize for ‘two-two ka four’

There are many commuters in the city who wish that their two-wheeler magically transforms into a four-wheeled vehicle. Two students from Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGn) have brought this idea to life and bagged third prize at a national-level design competition. Third year mechanical engineering students – Shashank Agarwal and Dhwanil Shukla – designed a unique electric-powered two-wheeler, two of which can also become a four-wheeler, when needed.

They won the award at CAD Design competition organised by Autodesk in association with National Skill Development Corporation competing with around a thousand other entries. The organisers had asked participants to design low cost personal transport considering aspects such as transformability, foldability or modularity. Agarwal said, “The design will allow the vehicle to be dismantled into two two-wheelers based on requirements. For example, for commuting through crowded lanes and more convenience in congested parking areas and so on.”

“We have designed the two-wheelers in such a way that they can accommodate removable fabric roofs for harsh weather conditions. The design has also taken into consideration various safety issues usually faced by two wheeler riders,” added Shukla.

The competition was held in several phases beginning with an online submission of design. The first and second prizes were won by Fr C Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Vashi in Mumbai and PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore respectively.
