India Inc mourns demise of ‘reformer-friend’

Industry captains mourned the demise of Jaitley, recalling that their “reformer-friend” had left an “indelible mark on the economic policy-making of the country”.  

Essel Group chairman Subhash Chandra, MP, said in a tweet: My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and admirers of Arun Jaitley Ji. His passing away creates a void in national politics that can never be filled. I pray for his soul. Om Shanti!

Confederation of Indian Industry president Vikram Kirloskar said, “A true reformer and keen advocate for economic liberalisation, he leaves behind an impressive policy imprint that will continue to bring notable gains to the Indian economy for all times to come.’’  

He further noted that the structural measures undertaken by Jaitley helped in opening up the space for private sector investments and boost GDP growth.

Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra said Jaitley was a man who committed his life to India. “I salute, and pray for the soul of a man who lived by his convictions and committed his life to his country...,” he tweeted.

Biocon chairperson and MD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tweeted, “...So very sad to see such a young and dynamic political leader’s life being cut short - he had so much more to contribute to our nation’s development.” 

Manipal Global Education chairman TV Mohandas Pai said on Twitter, “A great Indian @arunjaitley has left us: He always  stood for India and all of us; He dreamt of a New India where we all could achieve our dreams; everybody loved him and respect him; we will miss him Om Shanthi.’’

“Nation has lost a warm, dedicated, outstanding parliamentarian who will remembered as a creator of a modern BJP, for his brilliant legal mind, for his impeccable oratory skills, for bravely steering GST and other reforms. RIP #ArunJaitley. My friend, you will be sorely missed,” tweeted Harsh Goenka.
