India's tsunami warning system one of the most modern

India's Tsunami Warning System, using geo spatial system, is one of the most advanced in the world and could sound a warning not only to coastal districts in the country, but also other nations in the Indian Ocean, a top offical of the ministry of Earth Sciences said.
    
Addressing the 26th Convocation of Gandhigram Rural University here today, Shailesh Nayak, secretary in the ministry, said the state-of-the-art warning centre, with all necessary computational and communication infrastructure, had been established to enable reception of real time data from the Network of National and International Seismic Stations.
  
A Tsunami bulletin is generated within 15 minutes of occurrence of an earthquake. Based on decision support rules, the bulletin is released to the authories for action.The centre provides round the clock service, he said.
  
Stating that current trends of greenhouse gases (GHGs) are expected to continue at varying rates, depending on various scenarios of developmental strategies of the world community, he suggested that students pursue studies on climatic changes as the monsoon played a major role in Indian agriculture.
    
A total of 1850 candidates, including 1002 women, were awarded their degree and diploma certificates at the convocation held here today. SM Ramaswamy, vice-chancellor of the University, presided over the convocation ceremony.
