Kataria was elected, unanimously, as the LoP during BJP's legislative party meeting held on Sunday at the party headquarters in Jaipur.
Former home minister and veteran BJP leader, Gulab Chand Kataria will be the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the 15th state Assembly, while former minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Rajendra Rathore, will be the Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
Kataria was elected, unanimously, as the LoP during BJP's legislative party meeting held on Sunday at the party headquarters in Jaipur.
Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and BJP national general secretary Arun Singh announced Kataria's name for the post after the meeting of the legislative party. On this occasion, Rajasthan in-charge for Lok Sabha elections Prakash Javadekar also welcomed Kataria.
Then the newly elected LoP, Kataria, announced the name of former Cabinet minister Rajendra Rathore as deputy Leader of Opposition.
BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said that Kataria has been elected as the Leader of the Opposition unanimously by all the MLAs. Kataria has a very good experience of politics and has been a lawmaker eight times and apart from this he has held several posts in the government and the organisation. He has a wide work experience added Singh.
The first session of the 15th state Assembly will commence on January 15. A meeting of the BJP Legislative party was convened on Sunday, two days ahead of the session.
The meeting began at 2 pm at the BJP state headquarters and the party's national leadership had fixed names of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and national vice president Avinash Rai Khanna, but both leaders did not come. Instead Arun Singh joined the meeting in place of Jaitley while Union HRD minister Prakash Javadevkar and co-in charge for Lok Sabha elections Sudhanshu Trivedi were also present. Former chief minister and BJP national vice president Vasundhara Raje also joined the meeting. According to sources, the BJP legislative party meeting was a formality as the top leadership had already decided on Kataria's name as LoP and all party MLAs agreed to it.
Kataria is an Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background leader and MLA from Udaipur Assembly constituency. In past too he had been the Leader of Opposition.
After his appointment, Kataria said, "We will not allow the government to sit in the House with peace. The BJP's seats are definitely low, but the Congress does not have a majority, just more seats than us." State BJP team will change the picture in Lok Sabha elections for the BJP government at the Centre and the party will win all the seats from Rajasthan in the Lok Sabha polls, he added.
Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje congratulated Kataria on being elected as LoP. Raje said, "We have unanimously elected Katariaji as the Leader of the Opposition. He has already held this position, so he has good experience of this post and we will all give him our full cooperation. Under his leadership, we will perform very well in LS polls."
Union minister Javadekar and state president Madan Lal Saini also greeted Kataria on this occasion.
