Favouring a revision of the Master Plan for Delhi-2021, Union urban development minister Kamal Nath today said it should keep the people's aspirations in mind.
"Master plan will go for revision. We should not continue with the system where people first pay for construction then again pay for preventing the demolition. We must end the perpetuation of the system," Nath told reporters after meeting Delhi MPs here.
Delhi MPs including Jai Prakash Aggarwal, Krishna Tirath, Kapil Sibal, Mahabal Mishra and Ramesh Kumar today discussed various issues concerning unauthorised construction, zonal plans, parking lots and other development-related works in their areas with Nath.
"The Master Plan is not for the inspectors, it is for the people. So people's aspirations should reflect in the Master Plan," he said.
Nath also said there is a need for maintaining the green belt in the city.
The minister favoured preference for central schools in government land allotment.
"We should give preference to central schools while allotting vacant government land in every colony where there is a need," he said adding that this was demanded by the MPs.
On parking crisis, Nath said, "Parking lots can be constructed in the existing buildings using new technology."
Referring to the sealing issue in the capital, he said, "I am examining the desirability of the extension of Delhi Special Provision Act 2009" which gives a moratorium on sealing and demolition of various categories of properties.
"My attention was also drawn to the January 17 notification by the DDA. If necessary it can be de-notified," he said. As per the DDA notification, residents of rural, urbanised and 'lal dora' villages will now have to get their building plans sanctioned by civic authorities.
"There would be more such meetings with Delhi MPs, chief minister and Lt Governor to sort out issues concerning the people," Nath said.
