Modi pardons Delhi man who sent him hate email

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has pardoned the Delhi-based man, who allegedly sent him an "abusive" and "threat" email, official sources said here Sunday.

"The Chief Minister has decided to pardon the man Omar Siddiqui as he has admitted and repented on sending the email. Moreover, the CM felt that he had sent the mail without thinking," state intelligence bureau chief J Mahapatra told reporters.

The official said Modi had also decided to pardon Omar as he felt the the man was educated and the incident would spoil his future.

Omar was arrested by Gujarat Police on Friday from Delhi and brought to Ahmedabad the next day.

His father Irfan was summoned by officials for questioning and the aged man and one of his daughters have come to the city and met officials of the Anti-Terrorist Squad.

ATS officials, however, refused to divulge the address of Irfan and his daughter and said it could not be revealed to journalists.

To a question if Modi had met accused person's  father and sister before granting the pardon the official said he was not aware of this.

ATS nabbed Omar, who works as a senior executive with a outsourcing firm, from his house and also seized the computer from which he allegedly sent the hate mail in December last year.

This is the second occassion when Modi has pardoned a man who allegedly sent him "abusive" and "threat" email.
