On World Disability Day, 700 offered employment in Ahmedabad

World Disabled Day was celebrated in a very meaningful way on Friday, when a job fair was held for them by Blind People's Association (BPA) of the Ahmedabad.

More than 700 differently abled yet determined people participated in the fair where around 30 companies came to give jobs to these people.

Speaking on the occasion, executive director of BPA Bhushan Punani said: "This event is truly important for these people. On the occasion of World Disabled Day, there couldn't be a better way of celebrating than in this way. The fact that more and more companies are interested in recruiting these differently abled people is a very good trend."

Companies and businesses like Cama Hotel, Designmate Pvt Ltd, Hotel Lemon Tree, Safal Constructions, Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd and Café Coffee Day among others had come for the recruitment procedure this year.

Sharing the figures of registration of people, public relations officer of BPA, Shelly Bapna said, "This is the first time that more than 30 companies, corporates and MNCs have come to BPA to employ these people. Also, as compared to last year, when 200 people were offered jobs by these companies, this year we have received more than 700 candidates."

Coordinator of computer training, Ranchod Soni said, "Earlier, only limited posts were offered to the differently abled people. But now we want them to find work in all divisions and at all levels. Today, all those who have registered here for jobs, will be trained to learn the skills required by the corporates."

While interacting with the audience, some employers said that these differently abled people will be treated on par with other employers with regards to salary. The HR manager of a firm said, "We are so satisfied with their performance, their efficiency, discipline and punctuality that though we recruited a few of them at last year's BPA job fair, we have come again this year to employ more of them."
