Parts of M-16 rifle seized from MLA's house

IMPHAL: Two 9mm pistols and parts of an M-16 rifle were on Friday seized from the official residence of Congress MLA Brajabidhu Singh during a search conducted by security forces in the state capital's VIP area.

The arms and the rifle parts were found near a toilet in the premises, official sources said.

It was not known whether the weapons were thrown into the premises by militants.

The search operation was launched earlier today at Babupara, a high security complex where only ministers and MLAs live, following reports that some suspected militants were taking shelter in the area.

Fifty people were picked up by the security forces for verification of their identity and 10 of them appeared to have alleged links with militant outfits, the sources said.

After these 10 people were interrogated, a police team rushed to the MLA's house and found the pistols and parts of the rifle, they said.
