PM Narendra Modi's silence over attacks on migrants deafening, says Congress

The Congress has attacked the BJP government in the Centre as well as Gujarat over the incidents of violence against the state's migrant population coming in from Uttar Pradesh. Congress leader Manish Tiwari said the Prime Minister's silence is "deafening" also condemned the assurances of UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Tiwari said Vijay Rupani-led BJP government in the state is incapable and unwilling to stop the incidents which have spread to areas in Central Gujarat. He condemned UP CM Yogi Adityanath who was quoted as saying that effective steps were taken by the Gujarat government and that people who are jealous of development in the state were spreading rumours.

"Ridiculousness has touched a new high. To please the PM, the CMs of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are on an overdrive to give a clean chit to the Gujarat government, rather than empathising with the plight of their people. If they were true, then why are people are living in makeshift relief camps and why have 50,000 people have left the state," said Tiwari.

He also attacked the PM for "hawking" the Gujarat Model to seek votes. "Is this the model that he would like to perpetuate in this country, where you divide people in the name of region, religion, caste and try and keep this country on a permanent edge for electoral dividends," said Tiwari.

However, as reports came that over 20 Congress workers were caught in the riots, Tiwari dismissed them as "petty politics". "This is not the time to indulge in brinkmanship and play in petty politics. This is the time when the administrator, the CM of the state and the PM of India has to implement the Raj Dharma, the lesson of which the late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee tried to give the then CM Narendra Modi. Unfortunately, he has not absorbed it till now," said Tiwari.
