In a tragic hit-and-run accident in Maharashtra, a fisherwoman was killed and her husband injured when a BMW car, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, collided with their two-wheeler in Mumbai's Worli early Sunday morning. The incident occurred near Atria Mall around 5:30 am and saw the victims being dragged nearly 100 meters on the car's bonnet.

The victims, identified as Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, and her husband Pradip Nakhwa, 52, were returning from Sassoon Dock after buying fish to sell in local markets. Kaveri succumbed to her injuries after falling from the bonnet, while Pradip sustained serious injuries.

Mihir Shah, 24, had reportedly attended a late-night party with friends in Juhu before heading home. Insisting on driving, he took over the wheel from his driver, Rajendra Singh Bidawat, minutes before crashing into the Nakhwa couple's scooter. After the accident, Mihir fled the scene, abandoning the BMW in Kalanagar, Bandra East. He left in an auto-rickshaw and later went to his girlfriend’s house. The police have arrested Rajendra Singh Bidawat.

Police rushed to the scene but found Mihir had already fled. Rajesh Shah, a leader of the ruling MahaYuti ally Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, was detained as the BMW was registered in his name. The police scrutinize CCTV footage and question local morning walkers and joggers who might have witnessed the incident.

Mihir Shah has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (driving dangerously), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, and 324 (4) (causing damage and mischief).

Initial investigations revealed that Mihir had not consumed alcohol at the party, according to the pub owner, who stated that he only drank Red Bull. However, the police are investigating whether Mihir was under the influence at the time of the accident.

According to reports, Mihir Shah studied did not pursue education after class 10 and helped his father’s construction and real estate business in Maharashtra.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized that the law is the same for everyone and no one will be spared.
