Women and Child Development Ministry reveals Air India victim's identity

The Women and Child Development (WCD) ministry caused a minor stir on Monday when it accidentally revealed the name of an Air India air hostess who has alleged sexual harassment against a senior official of the national carrier.

In a press note released Monday afternoon, the ministry named the complainant, but took it down soon after. "Ms ***, who is working with Air India met Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Minister for WCD regarding her complaint under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013," read the statement. After the reveal was spotted, it was corrected.

In the statement, the WCD also said that Gandhi had taken up the matter with Suresh Prabhu, the minister for civil aviation, as well as the head of the Internal Complaints Committee at Air India. The note added that Gandhi had set June-end as the deadline for the inquiry to be completed.

On May 29, the complainant took to Twitter to allege that over the last six years, a senior executive had "sexually harassed, tortured and discriminated" against her, and claiming that the AI management did nothing to help her. Interestingly, a day later, though AI instituted a committee under a woman executive, the complainant said that the same had earlier brushed aside her complaints and said that "he flirts with me, too".
