Spring in New York

The spring weather is a fine time to walk around in the Big Apple. You get to see lots of green space and nature. The High Line Park is the place to be where curated plants bloom. Of course, you can’t be in NY and not drop in at Central Park. You could also opt for an evening tour that covers landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the 9/11 Memorial, Midtown Manhattan and Central Park.

The city has an eclectic mix of concerts and comedy performances. On April 8, Muse performs at the Madison Square Garden, while Snow Patrol will wow the crowd on April 30 at Terminal 5. If you loved the show, Seinfeld, watch the man himself in action on April 4 and 5. Jerry Seinfeld will perform at the Beacon Theatre on both the days. The city also has acts by Damon Wayans, Jeff Garlin (of Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Richard Lewis on the cards.

The Tribeca Film Festival will be held from April 24 to May 5. You will get to experience an incredible range of talent and diversity of movies. The director, cast and crew are often at hand for an interactive session after the screenings. Besides film, there is also the ESPN Sports Film Festival, a Family Festival Street Fair, various Tribeca Talks and free panels for working and aspiring filmmakers.

From April 5 to 7, head to Brooklyn Heights, to hear folk, blues, jug-band, string-band, bluegrass, Irish and Balkan music. There will also be vocal and instrumental workshops, family-friendly square dancing, and a banjo tossing contest. The festival is at the stunning St Ann’s Church at 157 Montague Street.

In April, you have a bunch of different sports to choose from including baseball, basketball, and soccer. If you fancy watching a game of ice hockey, you can chalk that in your itinerary too. All three New York teams are playing throughout the month.

Though the exact dates are yet to be announced, this annual festival will take place at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. There are over 60 events and performances that celebrate traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.

Check out the stage adaptations of some of the most popular movies from the 1970s and 80s. Until April 28, you can catch Bryan Cranston (of Breaking Bad fame) playing Howard Beale in the play version of Network.

In 2019, the Easter Parade will be held on April 21. Not your typical parade of floats and marching bands, this is a more casual stroll of paraders adorning their best Easter bonnets. You’ll see some wildly creative bonnets, from flower-covered foot-tall toppers to hats shaped in various designs. The route runs along Fifth Avenue heading north from 49th Street to 57th Street. The best place to watch is from the area around St Patrick’s Cathedral, which in and of itself is a beautiful place to visit.

Kids get their very own theatre productions. The New Victory Theater, known for their kid-oriented performances is hosting the renowned South Korean troupe, Snap, from April 12 to 28. This show of vaudevillian comedy, magical cabaret, and clever visual effects are meant for kids who are six years and above.

On April 17 between 6 pm and 9 pm, you can taste some of NYC’s best food while donating to charity at the same time. Taste of the Nation, a nationwide charity event, invites award-winning chefs from the region to show off their best meals. Proceeds go to No Kids Hungry, a charity designed to help end child hunger in the US. In addition to plenty of great food and drinks, there will also be live music performed on site during the festivities.
