Chennai: Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple 'kumbhabhishekam' to take place on April 3

This temple in Chennai was built in the 16th century by the Vijayanagar kings and is one of the most important landmarks of the city. On April 3, the Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple will see its 'kumbabhishekam' (a religious ceremony which is performed for a newly constructed shrine to make it sacred for worship). The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati is worshipped as Karpagambal in this temple.
An important event in the city, the kumbabhishekam will see thousands of people on April 3 at the temple. The Mylapore Times reports that D. Kaveri, the executive officer of the temple, has stated that her team and workers have been working 24 by 7 to ensure all the arrangements for the religious rituals and for guests and people are in place.
There are some rules and regulations that have been put in place to manage the crowd on April 3. The weekly reports that the public will be allowed to enter the temple from the east 'gopuram' (tower) side and temple gates via Ponnambalam Vadiyar Street.
Tickets for Darshan - There will be two separate queues – one for free darshan and another for the Rs. 100 ticket-holders. Tickets will be issued at the entry point on April 3. There is no separate stage for VIPs.
Public Access Areas - The public can access all the areas around the temple except those which are cordoned off. The north side of the temple is will not be open to the public because the rituals / homams will take place there on that day.
Kumbhabishekam Timings -The main event will start on Sunday at 8.30 a.m. and the kumbabhishekam for the maha gopuram and the other vimanams will be held at the same time. It is expected to get over by 10 a.m.
