Hong Kong Disneyland — where cartoons come alive!

Even for the most hardcore traveller, a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is something one should simply not miss out on exploring. Disney’s paradise island in Hong Kong indeed fills you up to the brim with glee and happiness as it makes one and all get in touch with the child in them again (this, if you aren’t a kid of course).

Ever since we landed at the Hong Kong airport, we realised that the weather could be unpredictable. But it was quite pleasant and relatively chilly that morning. Heading to the Disneyland Resort, we realised that age is something that has no standing in here. Reliving the childhood was just about to begin.

Walking through the main entrance a giant Mickey fountain sets the mood right for what lies inside. People dressed in colourful winterwear give a pointer to the highly fashionable wardrobe of the locals around.

Heading to main area, we decide to walk towards the Main Street, USA. It is where one should head for, as far as shopping is concerned. Resembling a small, early 20th century American town, it is dotted with quaint buildings and a bakery, a photo shop and a market — most of which are merely shop fronts of souvenir shops loaded with goodies based on Disney characters.

The other highlight is the Fantasy Parade that walks one through the Disney characters and makes the pathway around the park truly lively. Featuring hula dancers, bands and jumpers, the parade is indeed one of the most popular highlights of the park. The theme park’s latest attraction — Toy Story — also lets you into Andy’s toy backyard and the red car ride is the fastest and one of the best highlight rides around.

The park has five themed areas — Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventure Land, Tomorrow Land and Toy Story Land. The hotels also have two themed hotels for the complete Disney experience called Hollywood Hotel and Disneyland Resort. The rooms are spacious, with Disney-themed amenities either overlooking the garden or the sea view giving a sneak view of the Hong Kong mainland.

“The Disneyland Hong Kong is growing popular not just amongst the mainland Chinese or Filipinos and Indonesian tourists, but also amongst the Indian travellers too,” says Karuna Tsang, media relations officer of the theme park.
