Darshana Mandavale, Raksha Wankhede, Chiatali Kate and Sheetal Jadhav have learnt to say no.

Well, they got this self-confidence when their college — Cummins College of Engineering for Women — in-coordination with Eaton and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) conducted a two-month garnishing talent programme.

The programme not only increased their self-confidence, but also instilled a sense of self-esteem in these girls. “I was less confident and reclusive, but now I take initiative and confident enough to end a task,” said third-year Electronics and Telecommunication (E&TC) student, Darshana, who hails from Nashik district.

For Raksha, a computer science student, besides a boost in self-confidence, participation in group discussions and her performance in a team has also improved a lot. “I used to find it difficult to communicate in English, and it would affect my presence in the team. But now, I have learnt how to cope-up with various team members,” she said.
E&TC student, Chaitali, is now proud to say that changes in her have been noticed by her family members too. “I was good in English, but my pronunciation was poor. The workshop taught me to think about myself, which helped me to know my strong and weak points,” she said. Chaitali is from Malegaon.
Instrumentation student, Sheetal, said, “I got stage daring and improved my presentation skills from this workshop.”
“Interestingly, all these girls had their education in vernacular language and were less confident in English communication skills. But, the workshop helped them to improve their communication skills, besides boosting their self confidence,” said faculty member, Rohini Mulay.
“We had made batches of eight girls with two buddies. These buddies would be coordinating between the company, CII and the girls,” Mulay added. Buddies for these girls, Samiksha Khare and Sukhada Sathe said, “The workshop has taught all of us to be confident about ourselves. It also taught us to say no firmly when you don’t want to do something.”
