0.0 : Hello and welcome to the first Day/Night game of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2017 between Australia and Bangladesh. The former's first match got spoilt by rain and they would be eager to get their first win of this tournament today. The Asian side on the other hand posted a decent total against England but eventually came second. |
The Kangaroos are the favourites to win this game but you can never count out the Tigers as they have a record of creating upsets in a major tournament. The previous two games at The Oval weren't interrupted by rain but today showers have been predicted through the day. The overhead conditions also suggest the same as it's already overcast but let's hope that the rain stays away and we get a full game of cricket. |
TOSS - BANGLADESH WIN THE TOSS AND THEY WILL HAVE A BAT FIRST! |
Mashrafe Mortaza says they would like to bat first. Adds this can be a very good wicket to bat on since it's a used pitch and might become slower later on. Mentions they have one change, Mehedi Hasan is in for Mosaddek Hossain. Feels that they were a bowler short last time around but it's not the same this time. States this is a different wicket and they will bat first and put runs on the board. |
Steven Smith says they would have had a bat as well as it's a used wicket. States that the conditions are overcast, so would like to make the most of that. Lets everybody know there's one change, Adam Zampa is in for John Hastings. Adds they have some class players in their line-up and would like to use them. Finishes by saying it's a high pressure situation and pretty much every game is important for them so would like to do their best. |
Pitch Report - Ian Bishop is surprised as to how even Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn't been able to get any swing here. The wicket is a bit slow with some patches on it and the spinners will come into play as the game progresses. Reckons though that with the overhead conditions, the Australian bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc, should get some movement early on. |
The players are out for their respective national anthems. Players from both the teams have worn a black armband to protest against terrorist attacks that took place in London. |
The national anthems are done and dusted and the Australians have taken the field. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar to open for Bangladesh. Mitchell Starc to start the proceedings with the first new ball. He has a couple of slips in place. Here we go... |
0.1 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Starts off with a back of a length delivery in the channel outside off, Tamim Iqbal covers his line and shoulders his arms to it. |
0.2 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Good carry for Starc once more. Lands it just back of a length and outside off, it's shaping away from Tamim who has nothing to do with it. |
0.3 : M Starc to T Iqbal, FOUR LEG BYES! Starc errs in line and plays the price for it. Straying on the pads, Iqbal looks to clip it fine down the leg side but it goes off his pads. Goes away and across the fine leg fence for a boundary. |
0.4 : M Starc to T Iqbal, On a good length outside off, at 142 kph and invites Iqbal forward. The batsman puts bat on ball and gets a thick edge down to third man for a single. |
0.5 : M Starc to S Sarkar, Beaten all ends up! It's on an excellent line, just outside off on a length. It shapes back in and goes past the inside edge of Soumya Sarkar's bat. |
0.6 : M Starc to S Sarkar, A yorker in the opening over itself. At 143 kph, fired just outside off, Sarkar attempts to dig it out on the off side but fails to make connection. |
Josh Hazlewood will bowl with the second new ball from the other end. He has two slips in place as well. |
1.1 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, Loud should for a leg before! But it's turned down, good call by the umpire. Height was the issue. Length delivery taking some extra bounce, Tamim attempts to put bat on ball but is rapped on the pads. |
1.2 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, Shaping across on a back of a length, Iqbal hangs his bat inside the line as the ball just whizzes past the outside edge. |
1.3 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, Another shout, turned down again. Pitched outside leg. Fuller on middle and leg, Iqbal looks to flick but it goes off the pads on the leg side. The batsmen come across but the umpire signals runs. Probably then some bat on that occasion. |
1.4 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Keeps it nice and straight, attacks the stumps and makes Sarkar play at it. It's defended solidly from within the crease. |
1.5 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Slanting across on a back of a length, outside off, tapped to point with an angled bat. |
1.6 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Tight line from Hazlewood to end the over. It's very close to the off stick which cramps Soumya Sarkar for room. He can only defend it right under his nose. |
2.1 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Full delivery hurled around off, blocked by staying behind the line in front of covers. |
2.2 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Fired full and outside off, driven to mid off. |
2.3 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Tailing back in at 141 kph, flicked off the pads by Tamim for no run. |
2.4 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Oooh... That could have been close. Banged in short by Starc and it's angling down, Tamim Iqbal looks to pull but ends up getting it off the glove. It lobs behind and much to his delight, falls well short of the slip cordon. |
2.5 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Spears a full delivery outside off, no shot offered by the batsman. |
2.6 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Hangs deep inside his crease and blocks it out with the full face of the bat. |
3.1 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Moving across on a good length, quite close to off as Soumya Sarkar plays this with a slightly opened face. Taps it down just beside the stumps as he deals with it comfortably. |
3.2 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Slanting across once more, Sarkar uses the angle and taps it behind point for a single. |
3.3 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, FOUR! THAT'S HAMMERED! Coming on the back of a superb ton, he's high on confidence right now and it's showing. Iqbal gives the charge, meets the length ball with his meaty bat and crashes it past mid off for a boundary. |
3.4 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, Good single. Follows the previous delivery up well by working it to mid-wicket and crossing over. Sensible stuff. |
3.5 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Outside off on a length, played to point for no run. |
3.6 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Fractionally straight in line, it's worked behind square on the leg side for a comfortable two. |
4.1 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Length delivery aiming the top of off stump, kept out from within the crease with the full face of the bat. |
4.2 : M Starc to T Iqbal, FOUR! Super shot! Speared full and tailing back in on middle and off, Tamim Iqbal with a slightly closed face drives it through the left of mid on. Pat Cummins there chases after the ball and even puts in a dive to stop it, but just cannot get to it. Boundary! |
4.3 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Bowling at a good pace here, is Starc. Lands it outside off and it's left alone by the batsman. |
4.4 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Good length ball on the fifth stump line, dabbed to point with an angled bat. |
4.5 : M Starc to T Iqbal, Full delivery swinging back in, Iqbal leans ahead a touch and flicks it beautifully to square leg. Is unfortunate to find the fielder positioned there. |
Square leg drops back. |
4.6 : M Starc to T Iqbal, FOUR! This is a good end to the over. Short and wide, width on offer which Iqbal latches on to. Cuts it hard through point to send it across the boundary line. |
5.1 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, Hazlewood with a big appeal for an lbw, but nothing from the umpire. He pitches it on a length and it raps Sarkar on the pads right in front of the stumps. The umpire doesn't respond to the appeal though as the ball landed outside the line of leg stump. |
5.2 : J Hazlewood to S Sarkar, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Hazlewood is continuing on with his good run from the last game. Draws first blood for Australia with an excellent delivery. Bowls it just around off, on a length and makes it go away ever so slightly. Soumya Sarkar has a feel for it and ends up getting a nick behind. Matthew Wade dives to his left and takes it comfortably. |
Imrul Kayes is next in at No.3. |
5.3 : J Hazlewood to I Kayes, Back of a length around off, Kayes stays put and defends it off the back foot. |
5.4 : J Hazlewood to I Kayes, Very full and well outside off, Kayes leans into the shot and drives it through extra cover. Mid off runs to his right and cuts it off well with a tumble. Single taken. |
5.5 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, On a good length and outside off, played to point for nothing. |
5.6 : J Hazlewood to T Iqbal, IN THE AIR... BUT IT'S SAFE! Hazlewood almost has his second. He bangs it in short on middle and off, Tamim looks to pull but gets a big top edge. It balloons over mid-wicket and falls safely. One run taken. A good over from Hazlewood comes to an end. |
Pat Cummins is the first change. |
6.1 : Pat Cummins to T Iqbal, Bit ahead of a length on leg, Iqbal flicks it off his pads and places it behind square on the leg side. Big gap out there and it'll fetch him two runs. |
6.2 : Pat Cummins to T Iqbal, On the pads once more, it's once again tucked behind square on the leg side. Just a single this time. |

8.2 : Pat Cummins to I Kayes, Back of a length on middle and leg, a hint of movement away which squares up Kayes just a bit. He defends it off the outer half on the off side, won't get any run for it though. |
8.3 : Pat Cummins to I Kayes, On the shorter side of the length, angling down a bit, looks to glance it down fine. Gets it away eventually but off the hips. The batsmen take a leg bye. |
8.4 : Pat Cummins to T Iqbal, On the stumps, Iqbal works it towards wide mid on and hares across to complete the run. |
8.5 : Pat Cummins to I Kayes, Brilliant! Pat Cummins brings out a venomous bouncer. It's going across and is very sharp, the batsman just about manages to evade it. |

29.5 : T Head to Al Hasan, OUT! HE'S GONE! But that decision is a bit harsh really. Seems a little unfair on the batsman. Head from around the wicket bowls a slider around off, it's coming in with the angle as Shakib Al Hasan walks down the track to defend. Is rapped on the pads and there's a huge appeal for a leg before. The umpire raises his finger and Shakib immediately takes the review. Bangladesh have lost half their side now. Now the question arises that why was Zampa brought in so late? |

He comes steaming in from around the wicket and bowls it full on middle, Mehedi Hasan misses and the furniture is disturbed. BANGLADESH ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 182! |
An excellent bowling performance from Australia. They started off well, cramped the Bangladeshi batsmen for runs, gave away some runs in the middle and finished off well in the death. Barring Glenn Maxwell, everybody chipped in with the wickets with Mitchell Starc scalping all 4 of his right towards the end, with 3 of them coming in a single over. Adam Zampa was brought in after the 34th over strangely and despite that, he picked up 2 wickets. Says it all about the Aussies in the field today. |
Tamim Iqbal once again was the standout batsman for the Tigers. Shakib Al Hasan provided him some support in the middle as the duo put up a 69-run stand, but he departed against the run of play. Tamim carried on and in the quest to up the ante, fell short of what would have been a deserving century. The target is an easy one for Australia to chase and if the rain doesn't interrupt, they'll back themselves to gun it down. Join us in a while for the second half of the match. |
