The turnaround began with Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone's efforts in the middle overs, and it was capped off by some exceptional death bowling from Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood. |
| Earlier, Phil Salt chose to bowl first, hoping to exploit any moisture left on the pitch from the rain. However, the English pacers struggled to find the right lines and lengths, and Australia made them pay for it. Matthew Short started it all, and Travis Head then simply dismantled the English pace attack with a 19-ball fifty. With 86 runs on the board by the end of the Powerplay, Australia had laid a strong foundation to capitalise on. |
| However, England clawed their way back into the game in stunning fashion. At 118/2 after 10 overs, Australia looked set for a total well beyond 200.
