Commentary :
0.0 : Hello and a warm welcome to the opening game of the Champions Trophy, 2017. The first match will be taking place between the hosts, England and the Asian tigers, Bangladesh at the Oval. The home side are looking very strong in the ODI format and are coming into this tournament fresh from a series win against South Africa. Bangladesh also would be high on confidence as well as they have risen to their highest ever ranking in the ODIs.
Last time when these two sides met in an ICC tournament, it was the 2015 ODI World Cup, where the Asian team got the better of the then English side. Times have changed since then and England would be aiming for revenge in front of the home crowd while Bangladesh would look to create another upset. Toss coming up!
TOSS - ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS AND HAVE ELECTED TO FIELD FIRST!
Eoin Morgan says they will bowl first. Adds it's a 1030 start and the wicket looks good, so if the wicket will do anything it'll do it now. Mentions everybody is fit and it's more or less the same team that played against South Africa in Leeds. Let's everybody know there's one change as Jake Ball comes in for Adil Rashid. When asked about Jason Roy's patchy form, he says that he's been doing well in the nets and backs him completely. Opines there's no trouble with Ben Stokes, just a tactical cha
Mashrafe Mortaza says that they would have bowled first as well. Mentions that there will be swing on offer early on but overall it looks a good wicket. Adds that they will have to post a good total and then field well. Informs that all his players are fit. Says that in the last couple of years, they have improved but so have England. Ends by saying that they don't fear the opposition and would look to play hard cricket out in the middle.
Pitch Report - There will be some movement for the pacers. The England bowlers will get a lot of movement and bounce, but it will all depend on how they use it and how the Bangladesh batsmen apply themselves, reckons Ian Bishop.
ENGLAND XI - Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(C), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(WK), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood, Jake Ball.
BANGLADESH XI - Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim(WK), Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza(C), Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman.
The players have made their way out in the middle and are getting ready for their respective national anthems.
The two Bangladeshi openers, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar have taken their place in the centre. Chris Woakes to start with the first new ball. He has a couple of slips in place. Here we go...
0.1 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Not much swing there, maybe a slight hint of movement away. Woakes fires it full and just outside off, Tamim Iqbal prods forward in defense but is beaten past the outside edge.
0.2 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Another one full in length, on the base of off stump, Tamim leans ahead a touch and drives it to mid off.
0.3 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Good length delivery quite close to the off pole, hangs back in defense as he drops it down on the ground on the on side.
0.4 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, That's going a long way across. It's on a length as Tamim lets it be.
0.5 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Angling across on a good length, Tamim offers a firm back foot punch but it's straight to the man at cover.
0.6 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, A maiden to start things off with. Makes this one go away from around off, Iqbal with a slightly opened face dabs it down square on the off side.
Mark Wood to bowl from the other new ball.
1.1 : M Wood to S Sarkar, Attacks straightaway. Gets this length delivery to come back in, Mark Wood. Soumya Sarkar attempts to play across the line but is rapped on the pads. No appeal there as it was going down leg.
1.2 : M Wood to S Sarkar, Length delivery around off, Sarkar keeps it out from deep within his crease.
1.3 : M Wood to S Sarkar, That's an excellent effort from Eoin Morgan, setting an example early up. Sarkar lunges forward and drives this hard towards extra cover. The English captain dives full stretch to his left and does extremely well to get a hand on it. Saves a certain boundary and the batsmen can only take one.
1.4 : M Wood to T Iqbal, On a back of a length, in the off stump channel, Tamim makes a watchful leave.
1.5 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Short of a good length, shaping away from around off, kept out off the back foot rather solidly.
1.6 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Wide! Wood goes short and really bends his back this time, it's too short though as the umpire signals it as a wide.
M Wood to T Iqbal, Just back of a length again, blocked out with a straight blade to end the over.
2.1 : C Woakes to S Sarkar, Shortish length delivery holding its line around off, Sarkar steers it along the ground towards gully.
2.2 : C Woakes to S Sarkar, Short and on off, Sarkar gets on top of the bounce and defends it down in front of covers.
2.3 : C Woakes to S Sarkar, In the air but it's well away from the fielder. Woakes bowls a back of a length delivery well outside off, Soumya Sarkar stands tall and punches it uppishly. It through the right of the backward point fielder and one run is taken as third man mops it up in the deep. A bit indecisive in the running though from the Bangladeshi batsmen.
2.4 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Length delivery on off, Tamim offers a straight blade in defense.
2.5 : C Woakes to T Iqbal, Shot. Fuller length delivery straighter in line, Tamim Iqbal leans ahead and flicks it past the mid-wicket fielder. It's a big boundary out there so the batsmen get three.
2.6 : C Woakes to S Sarkar, On the shorter side of things, it's defended off the back foot by the batsman.
Chris Woakes is off the field. After he delivered the last ball, he held his waist. A bit of side strain maybe. Let's hope that it's not too serious. Jonny Bairstow is on the field in his place.
3.1 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Tight line from Mark Wood as he pitches this on a back of a length, very close to off stump as it's solidly kept out from Tamim.
3.2 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Super piece of fielding from Jason Roy. Tamim hangs back and opens the face to dab it to the right of backward point. Roy runs and dives to stop it. Stops the batsmen from taking a run as he quickly fires a throw at the striker's end.
3.3 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Coming back into the batsman, he's struck on the thigh pad as he attempts to put bat on ball.
3.4 : M Wood to T Iqbal, The batsman defends it from within the crease.

5.2 : M Wood to S Sarkar, Length ball on off, Soumya with a back foot defense to see it out.
5.3 : M Wood to S Sarkar, That would have been really close. Too early and absolutely unnecessary to take chances at this stage of the game. Sarkar turns this towards square leg and takes off. Jonny Bairstow, the substitute fielder, moves to his left and fires a throw at the striker's end. Just misses, but had that hit its mark, Tamim would have been gone.
5.4 : M Wood to T Iqbal, On middle and leg, worked away to square leg. No run taken.
5.5 : M Wood to T Iqbal, Length delivery shaping away, negotiated well from inside his crease.
5.6 : M Wood to T Iqbal, FOUR! EDGED AND AWAY! Short and it's rising quickly on Tamim Iqbal. He looks to pull but gets a top edge. Luckily for him, it flies over Jos Buttler who leaps to try and take it. Boundary to end the over.
6.1 : J Ball to S Sarkar, From around the wicket, it's full on the stumps, driven to mid on.
6.2 : J Ball to S Sarkar, Ooohh... That was close. It hits the deck and straightens up considerably. Sarkar has a tame push at it and almost edges it as it goes through to the keeper.

6.4 : J Ball to S Sarkar, The batsman was beaten and missed the line of the delivery.
6.5 : J Ball to S Sarkar, Back of a length delivery which is comfortably blocked out by Soumya Sarkar.
6.6 : J Ball to S Sarkar, DROPPED! Moeen Ali puts down an easy one. Everybody probably thought Bangladesh have lost their first wicket of the day. Wouldn't blame 'em either. Full and angling in, Sarkar flicks it uppishly in front of square leg. Ali moves to his left and gets both his hands to it, only to spill it. Was a dolly, should have been taken that. Soumya Sarkar survives. Maiden over from Ball!

He doesn't know at first where the ball is. It drops and is spinning back in from the leg side to hit the stumps. The batsman does well to kick it away. Smiles and chuckles all around from the England players.
9.6 : M Wood to T Iqbal, FOUR! Another top edge but he's made better connection this time. Iqbal pulls it over square leg and sends it across the rope for a boundary.

Good comeback by England at the death. They were running the risk of Bangladesh posting a big total on the board, but have done well to recover. Bangladesh's openers took a steady approach and played sensibly. But the real impetus came via the Iqbal-Rahim partnership which consisted of 166 runs. The former scored a big ton while the latter made a brisk fifty. Some late hitting from Sabbir took them to a total past 300 but Mortaza's men will feel they fell short by at least 25-30 runs.
England won't be too disappointed with the target they have in front of them. They did decently on the the whole, barring that period where Iqbal and Rahim were playing fluently. It was that 45th over from Plunkett that made all the difference where he dismissed both the set batsmen. With the firepower in their ranks, the hosts will back themselves to chase this down. Join us in a while for the chase.
