Match over
Commentary :
0.0 :

KKR are bowling with an unchanged side. Kings XI Punjab are also unchanged. Punjab have got a start after beating Pune the other night. KKR are the form team in comparison, while KXIP will be buoyed by the return to form of Glenn Maxwell and Murali Vijay.

A couple of boundaries by Shaun Marsh and Murali Vijay help KXIP to reach 7 an over. They need more. The pitch isn't seaming or turning that much.

And Morne Morkel is bowling his third now.

KXIP are 52/2 at the end of the 9th over, at the Strategic Timeout. KKR have kept Punjab well in check so far. Contrary to earlier predictions, there is prodigious turn on occasion. Will the pitch deteriorate later on? If it does, it will hurt the Knight Riders even though they are ahead at this stage.

163 is the average score on this wicket batting first. In the last 10 games though, it's 151. For now, KXIP aren't reading the turn well.

1.1 :

Here are the playing XIs for each team:

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed the vice-captain for the game. He told the commentary team that the ball is turning and KKR are thinking of getting a spinner in quickly. Right on cue, Shakib al Hasan comes in.

Maybe I was wrong. KKR introduce a third spinner - Piyush Chawla - and he gets HUGE turn from his 1st delivery.

David Miller's awful run of form continues, and KKR have undone KXIP's batting order through spin here. Even Yusuf Pathan is able to induce edges to the keeper off his very first ball.

0.2 :

FOUR. Murali Vijay has decided to smash the bowler over his head off the second ball of the innings. Morne Morkel may not extract prodigious bounce from this wicket either.

Seven wickets down for Punjab with 115 on the board and two overs left. This IPL has been very predictable apart from two games in which RCB massacred the opposition bowling (They ended up losing the second one after scoring 192). Win the toss, bowl first. Opt to bat first, lose. Opt to bowl first, restrict opposition to under 160, win.

3.3 :

KXIP are looking for the big shots but not getting distance on their shots. Despite a lot of aerial hitting, the run rate is still only six per over.

I almost forgot that KKR have Narine too. He's being nippy in his first few deliveries. Beat Vijay's bat on the last ball.

There is a stumping appeal here! Vijay's foot was inside the line and grounded! Well, the commentators never realised a review was coming up.

0.4 :

FOUR. Murali Vijay has decided to smash the bowler over his head off the fourth ball of the innings. Morne Morkel may not extract prodigious bounce from this wicket either.

And now Manan Vohra is out as he hits one shot a little better and the ball carries to deep square leg.

This ain't gonna happen anymore, baby.

OUT. The Wriddhiman Saha experiment has failed. He gets an underedge off the vily Narine who is still very vily. Can Glenn Maxwell come in now please?

7.5 :

Murali Vijay it is! Googly from Piyush Chawla, and Vijay didn't pick it at all. 26 from 22. KXIP in trouble, 46 in the 7th over.

Teams chasing first have won 11 out of 12 games in this IPL so far. The choice for any captain winning the toss seems obvious. Meanwhile, Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are struggling to hit boundaries. Maxwell is trying dangerous reverse sweeps. He doesn't score high in the intelligence department at times.

GONE. Maxwell goes for a silly shot once too many times, a switch hit over cover, and holes out at cover. Unthinking batting in these circumstances, and Maxwell is back to square one after a great innings against Pune the other day.

Caught Yadav bowled Yadav. KXIP have never hit the ball from the middle of the bat all night. Axar Patel isn't gonna do it either. 108/6, with just over 3 overs left. Pathetic.

2.6 :

This is why Shakib is bowling.

An awful run out of Pradeep Sahu in the 19th over leaves Punjab at 120/8 after 19. They can't get much past 130 tonight. It will be a walk in the park for KKR with their form batsmen on fire.

Two misfields allow three runs from the last ball. KXIP have a great last over, scoring 18 off it, during which Shaun Marsh also reached his fifty. Preity Zinta is laughing about the misfield, but we won't be laughing. 138 is a scarily normal-ish total batting first this IPL. And it's way below par. KKR should manage this easily.
