SRH 150/4 (20)
Kings XI Punjab beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets
KXIP 151/4 (19.5)
Match over
0.0 : All set for the Monday evening action and Hyderabad have arrived in Mohali to face the home team, Punjab, at the PCA Stadium. Both teams faced defeats last Saturday in a way that would have hurt them. The hosts lost the plot completely in their chase whereas the visitors got blown away by the West Indian storm, Alzarri Joseph. Barring that game, these two sides have done decently in 2019 and would be eager to get back to winning ways. Gayle vs Rashid, Ashwin vs Warner are a few individual battle
Pitch report - Darren Ganga inspects the surface and says that there is an even covering of grass and it has a mosaic look to it. He feels that it's going to be good for batting but also mentions that hitting sixes won't be too easy given the dimensions of the ground.
Toss - Ravichandran Ashwin flips the coin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar calls 'Heads' but it comes down as 'Tails'. PUNJAB ELECT TO FIELD!
Hyderabad skipper, Bhuvneshwar Kumar says he wanted to bowl also but now they have to post a big score as dew could be a factor. Wants to improve on the middle order batting and states that he is enjoying his captaincy stint. Informs that they are unchanged.
Punjab skipper, Ravichandran Ashwin informs about the team changes first and tells that Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Ankit Rajpoot are playing in place of Andrew Tye and Murugan Ashwin. Mentions that it's more to do with the conditions. Feels the pitch appears to be a bit tacky. On containing Bairstow and Warner, Ashwin replies that they are quality batsmen and Punjab will try to bowl well up front.
Punjab (Playing XI) - Lokesh Rahul(WK), Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin(C), Ankit Rajpoot (in for Andrew Tye), Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb Ur Rahman (in for Murugan Ashwin).
Unchanged Playing XI for Hyderabad - David Warner, Jonny Bairstow(WK), Vijay Shankar, Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar(C), Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma.
We are all set to begin. The players and umpires are out in the middle. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow will open the batting for Hyderabad. Ankit Rajpoot will start the proceedings for Punjab. He will have a fond memory of playing against Hyderabad as he picked a fifer last season. Let's see how he fares today. A slip in place. Here we go...
0.1 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, WIDE! Starts with a delivery outside off, Warner shoulders his arms to this one. Ankit Rajpoot starts with a widish delivery. The umpire calls it a wide much to the surprise of everyone. That appeared to be well inside the tramline.
A Rajpoot to D Warner, Quick single! On a good length on off, Warner plays it towards covers and rushes to the other end. Sarfaraz attacks the ball and goes for a direct hit at the bowler's end but misses it.
0.2 : A Rajpoot to J Bairstow, On a good length and outside off, Bairstow offers no shot to this one.
0.3 : A Rajpoot to J Bairstow, Length delivery on middle, Bairstow flicks it towards mid-wicket for a single.
0.4 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, On a good length on middle, Warner looks to defend but gets an inside edge onto the pads. Good bowling by Rajpoot.
0.5 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, On a good length on off, Warner plays it towards cover-point where Mandeep does well to stop it with a dive to his left. Saves a few runs for his team.
0.6 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, Length delivery on off, David pushes it to covers. Just 3 runs from the first over. Good start by Ankit Rajpoot.
Spin or pace? Which type of bowler will bowl from the other end? Any guesses? Okay, we will tell you. It's the Afghan kid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman. A slip is in place.
1.1 : Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, Full on off, Bairstow drives it to mid off.
1.2 : Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, WIDE! Bowls it down the leg side, Jonny looks to play at that but misses it.
Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, Tossed up on middle, Bairstow plays it back towards the bowler.
1.3 : Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, Floated on leg, Bairstow looks to flick but gets hit on the pads. It goes towards fine leg. The batsmen pick up a couple and it's given as leg byes.
1.4 : Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, WIDE! Bowls it down the leg side, Jonny looks to go after it but misses it.
Ur Rahman to J Bairstow, OUT! Massive success for Punjab! Mujeeb did well to keep Bairstow quiet in this over and eventually has removed him from the crease. A floated delivery, on a fuller length around middle, Jonny leans forward and across before playing the flick shot but fails to keep it down. Ashwin manning the mid-wicket region goes down low and takes an excellent catch. Early setback for the visiting team as they lose an in-form batsman.
Vijay Shankar is the new batsman in.
1.5 : Ur Rahman to V Shankar, Good ball by Mujeeb. Flighted delivery outside off, turning back in, Shankar looks to defend but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It just misses the middle stump by a whisker.
1.6 : Ur Rahman to V Shankar, FOUR! A boundary to end the over! Mujeeb tosses it one nicely but lands it very full outside off. Shankar presses forward and drives it crisply through covers for a boundary.
2.1 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, Full on leg, Warner looks to flick but gets it off his pads. It goes towards fine leg. The fielder chases it and does well to stop it before the ropes. The batsmen get three runs. The umpire gives it as leg byes.
2.2 : A Rajpoot to V Shankar, Length delivery on off, Shankar plays it towards third man for a single.
2.3 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, On a good length on off, Warner punches it to point.
2.4 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, It was bowled on a length on off, Warner plays it to cover-point.
2.5 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, On a good length on off, David plays it towards covers where the fielder does well to stop it.
David Miller is mic'd up. On his fielding effort, he says that he feels quite young. Moving over to the match, David is happy with the wicket of Bairstow as he reckons that the Englishman can take the game quickly. Observes that the ground is very wet, which means dew has already made its presence. Hopes that it gets wetter and wetter so that chasing would be easy. On the pitch, DM is surprised with so much grass on the wicket but reckons that it will be a belter. Regarding Hyderabad's dominance
2.6 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, Length delivery on middle, David flicks it through mid-wicket. Rajpoot all the way goes to collect the ball and takes too much time to throw it. In the end he throws it at the keeper's end. The batsmen pick up a couple.
Mohammed Shami is into the attack now.
3.1 : M Shami to V Shankar, A length ball to start with. It's angled into the right-hander and Shankar plays it with soft hands towards wide mid on for a run.
3.2 : M Shami to D Warner, Shami lands it short and outside off, Warner shapes up for a big flat-batted shot but it comes slowly off the surface and he ends up mistiming it back to the bowler.
3.3 : M Shami to D Warner, Beaten! Movement there for Shami. He gets a length ball to seam away from the southpaw, Warner pushes inside the line without any footwork and is beaten comprehensively.
3.4 : M Shami to D Warner, Miscommunication but no harm done! A pitched up ball around off, Warner pushes it with soft hands to covers and Shankar eyes a run. But he is sent back quickly and the throw from the fielder was quite wayward.
3.5 : M Shami to D Warner, Very full on middle and off, Warner digs it out towards mid on and once again there is a lot of confusion over a run. Both batsmen are ball-watching and ended up dancing in the middle of the pitch. Eventually, they return to their respective crease.
3.6 : M Shami to D Warner, A bit of width on offer outside off, David plays it off his back foot but finds the cover-point fielder. Fine first over by Shami, just one run coming off it.
4.1 : A Rajpoot to V Shankar, Length delivery on middle, Shankar flicks it towards mid-wicket for a single.
4.2 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, On a length and outside off, Warner punches it towards the off side for a single.
4.3 : A Rajpoot to V Shankar, On a good length on off, Vijay plays it to point.
4.4 : A Rajpoot to V Shankar, BEATEN! It was bowled on a good length and outside off, Shankar looks to defend but misses it due to the away movement on this one.
4.5 : A Rajpoot to V Shankar, Again on a length on off, Shankar plays it towards point. Miller goes for a direct hit at the keeper's end but misses it. The batsmen take a run.
4.6 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, FOUR! Only the second boundary of the innings and first for Warner. Too full in length on middle, David flicks it across the line to mid-wicket where Ashwin fails to reach with a full length dive and it races away to the fence.
5.1 : M Shami to V Shankar, Angles in a length ball on middle, Shankar gets behind the line and pushes it back to the bowler.
5.2 : M Shami to V Shankar, Back of a length delivery outside off, Vijay keeps his weight on the back foot and punches it to cover-point.
5.3 : M Shami to V Shankar, Pitches it up and outside off, it's driven to the left of mid off for a quick single.
5.4 : M Shami to D Warner, Good length delivery on the pads, Warner nudges it towards mid-wicket and crosses for a run.
5.5 : M Shami to V Shankar, Fullish and on off, Shankar pushes it off his front foot to mid off.
5.6 : M Shami to V Shankar, Lands it on a length and around off, Shankar stays back and taps it down to point. Yet another quiet over to end the Powerplay. Just 27 runs off it!
Ravichandran Ashwin is into the attack.
6.1 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Tossed up on middle, Warner drives it towards mid on for a run.
6.2 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, Flighted delivery on middle, Shankar flicks it towards mid-wicket for a run.
6.3 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Full on off, David drives it back towards the bowler.
6.4 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Floated on off, David pushes it to covers.
6.5 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Floated on off, Warner drives it firmly to covers where Mandeep does well to stop it.
Interesting! After the first ball of the last over, David Warner, out of habit, left his crease, even before Ashwin was in his delivery stride. Realizing immediately, the Aussie dragged his bat quickly inside the crease. Hmm... We don't want yet another controversy related to Mankading. Mujeeb Ur Rahman returns in the attack.
6.6 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Tossed up on middle, the left-hander flicks it towards mid-wicket. The batsmen pick up a couple. Only 4 from Ashwin's first over.
7.1 : Ur Rahman to V Shankar, Floated on middle, Shankar drives it back to the bowler.

7.5 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Short and outside off, Warner makes room and cuts it towards point. The batsmen pick up a couple.
7.6 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Floated on leg, David tucks it towards square leg for a run.
8.1 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Short on off, Warner punches it to covers.
8.2 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Tossed up on middle, David plays it towards wide mid on for a run.
8.3 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, Floated on middle, Shankar flicks it towards mid-wicket. The batsmen get two runs.
8.4 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, Tossed up again on middle, Shankar flicks it again through mid-wicket. The batsmen pick up a couple again.
8.5 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, BEATEN! Beautiful delivery from Ashwin. It was the carrom ball from him outside off, Shankar looks to play a late cut but misses it.
8.6 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, Full on off, Vijay drives it towards mid off for a run.
Strategic break! Hyderabad are struggling here to get going! Once again, just like yesterday, the team batting first is finding it tough to score freely. The bowling from Punjab is decent, they have served a few poor ones too, but they haven't been put away by David Warner or Vijay Shankar. The surface appears to be on the slower side and let's see how Hyderabad deal with it in the middle phase. Meanwhile, Punjab have brought their little star into the attack - Sam Curran.
9.1 : Sam Curran to V Shankar, Length delivery on middle, Shankar flicks it through mid-wicket for a run.
9.2 : Sam Curran to D Warner, On a good length on off, Warner plays it to covers.
9.3 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Full and outside off, David drives it through covers. The batsmen pick up a couple.
9.4 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Short of a length delivery, Warner pulls it over mid-wicket for a run.
9.5 : Sam Curran to V Shankar, Full on middle and leg, Shankar flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen take a couple.
9.6 : Sam Curran to V Shankar, Full again on leg, Shankar flicks it towards square leg for a run. It has been a slow scraping fifty from Hyderabad. Just 7 runs have come from this over. Hyderabad need big overs from here.
10.1 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, FOUR! A welcome boundary for Hyderabad, only the third in this innings. A flighted ball around leg, skidding in, Shankar makes room and lofts it straight down the ground for a boundary.
10.2 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, Goes on the back foot to a short ball and punches it to long off for a run.
10.3 : R Ashwin to D Warner, 300 runs in this season for David Warner! Short in length and on middle, Warner goes deep inside the crease and pulls it down to deep mid-wicket for a run.
10.4 : R Ashwin to V Shankar, OUT! Shankar tries to be cheeky with his late cut but has ended up edging it behind. He attempted a similar shot in Ashwin's last over too but that time he got beaten completely. Not this time though. Ashwin serves it slightly short and just outside off. Vijay stays back to get his late cut right but it takes the outside edge and settles into the gloves of KL Rahul. Sharp catch, that. The partnership ends one short of a fifty, took too long to come.
Mohammad Nabi is the new batsman in.
10.5 : R Ashwin to M Nabi, Short and wide outside off, Nabi goes back and slaps it to sweeper cover for a run.
10.6 : R Ashwin to D Warner, FOUR! Finds the fence! Ashwin goes short again but not always you will hit the jackpot. This time Warner latches onto it and whacks it through point. 11 from the over, the biggest over of this innings.
11.1 : Sam Curran to M Nabi, Length delivery on leg, Nabi flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen pick up a couple.
11.2 : Sam Curran to M Nabi, On a length on middle, Nabi flicks it towards mid-wicket for a run.
11.3 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Short and outside off, Warner cuts it to point.
11.4 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Full toss on leg, David flicks it towards square leg for a run.
11.5 : Sam Curran to M Nabi, IN THE AIR BUT SAFE! Sam Curran follows Mohammad Nabi and bowls a short of a length delivery, Nabi looks to pull but gets a top edge. It lands in no man's land towards mid-wicket where the bowler himself goes for the catch but it lands safely. The batsmen pick up a couple.
11.6 : Sam Curran to M Nabi, Length delivery on middle, Nabi plays it through mid-wicket. The batsmen get two runs. 8 runs have come from this over.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is back on.
12.1 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Flatter delivery, full and on the pads, Warner works it in front of square leg and scampers across for a couple of runs.
12.2 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Short and outside off, Warner slaps it to covers.
12.3 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, FOUR! Here comes the reverse-batted shot! Mujeeb serves it full and around leg, the Aussie brings out the reverse sweep and nails it over backward point for a boundary.
12.4 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Short again from Mujeeb. He bowls it outside off, Warner slaps it towards covers for a single.
12.5 : Ur Rahman to M Nabi, Bowls a carrom ball outside off, Nabi slaps it through covers. Mayank Agarwal at deep cover does well to stop it and saves runs for the team. The batsmen get three runs. Good running between the wickets.
Mayank Agarwal is in deep pain. He is holding his little finger and is rushing out of the field along with the physio to receive some treatment. Hopefully, everything is good.
12.6 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Nervous moment! Full and down the leg side, Warner misses his flick and is hit on the pads. The ball rolls to the leg side and he sets off for a single but then the keeper quickly gets across to his right. Nabi sends him back and Rahul has a back-flick at the keeper's end. Misses. Warner might have been short...
Ravichandran Ashwin is back on.
13.1 : R Ashwin to M Nabi, Driven towards the mid on region. They pick up a single.
13.2 : R Ashwin to D Warner, OUT! A run out at the non-striker's end with Ashwin involved once more. Nopes, it's not Mankading, it's a regular way of getting run out. A full delivery around off has been hit back by Warner. Ashwin goes down low to stop the ball and Nabi has left the crease. The Punjab skipper recovers quickly and flicks it onto the stumps behind. The Afghan departs. Things just not happening for Hyderabad.
Manish Pandey is the new batsman.
13.3 : R Ashwin to D Warner, FOUR! Ashwin goes short and on middle, Warner turns inside the crease and pulls it past short fine leg for a boundary.
13.4 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Short delivery, cut through cover-point for a couple.
13.5 : R Ashwin to D Warner, Aerial but safe! Ashwin drags his length short again, Warner top edges his attempted pull shot and it lands safely towards wide long on. A single is taken.
13.6 : R Ashwin to M Pandey, Keeps on bowling short, it's outside off and Pandey slaps it through cover-point for one. 9 runs and a wicket from the over.
Sam Curran is back on. 2-0-15-0 so far.
14.1 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, Outside off, punched off the back foot through mid on for a single.
14.2 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Backs away to the leg side, Curran follows him, Warner looks to play that through the off side but gets a bottom edge on the bounce to the keeper.
14.3 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Around middle and leg, Warner looks to swing hard but the ball barely comes off the surface. Takes the inner half of the bat and goes through mid on. A run taken.
14.4 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, Huge shout for LBW! Denied. Curran wants a review but no one supports him. Poor lad. Tell you why. This was dead plumb. Looked so to the naked eye but the umpire did not feel so and the keeper and captain did not go with the bowler. A length ball, swinging away, Pandey wildly swung across the line and missed. Was hit flush in front of the stumps and Curran appealed but Erasmus was calm. Ashwin discussed with his keeper but then decided not to review. Perhaps they fe
14.5 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, Backs away to the leg side, Curran follows him, Pandey tries to play the upper cut but misses.
14.6 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, Misfield from Sarfaraz. Manish steers this through point where Khan makes a mess of it and converts a single into a double.
15.1 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, SIX! Here comes the first biggie of the innings! Warner has hoisted it over the bowler's head. Lovely hit. Mujeeb tries following the batsman down the leg side with a fuller length ball, David backs away a bit to make room and then goes full throttle. High and handsome it goes. Into the stand. Hyderabad need many more such shots.
15.2 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Plenty of movement inside the crease by Warner. Mujeeb watches this and then lets out a shorter delivery outside off. The Aussie punches it to covers and takes a run.
15.3 : Ur Rahman to M Pandey, Flatter and on middle, Pandey gets inside the line and deflects it down to fine leg for one. 100 up for Hyderabad.
15.4 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, The batsman has punched the ball off the back foot. They pick up a single.
15.5 : Ur Rahman to M Pandey, Quicker delivery, on middle, Pandey somehow keeps it out off the inner edge to backward square leg for one.
15.6 : Ur Rahman to D Warner, Fifty for Warner, his 39th in the Indian T20 League and seventh on the trot against Punjab, 9th overall which is the most by a batsman against the hosts! Mujeeb delivers it short and outside off, David hammers it to sweeper cover and returns for the second run. Good running between the wickets. A very responsible knock from Warner, it's on the slower side but his presence means that the scoring rate can go up any time.
Strategic break. Punjab continue to be on top by bowling tidily but they will have to maintain the same intensity in the death overs. Hyderabad have found it tough to cut loose but David Warner is still out there and all the hopes will be pinned on his shoulders to take them close to 150, at least. Mohammed Shami is brought back into the attack.
16.1 : M Shami to M Pandey, FOUR! The final phase of this innings begins well for Hyderabad. A length delivery outside off, Manish Pandey goes deep inside the crease to make room and hammers it through extra cover for a boundary.
16.2 : M Shami to M Pandey, Follows the batsman down the leg side with a length ball, Pandey gets behind the line and pushes it down to long on for one.
16.3 : M Shami to D Warner, FOUR! Warner getting into the act now. Shami lets out a slower one but bowls it on the shorter side around off at 122 kph. David goes deep inside the crease this time to make room and powers it through point. Mandeep in the deep puts in a full length dive but fails to pull it back.
16.4 : M Shami to D Warner, Stays on the back foot and punches it to extra cover off the toe end of his bat. Goes straight to the fielder and they decide not to cross.
16.5 : M Shami to D Warner, Straighter in line, Warner turns it in the gap at mid-wicket and rushes back for the second run.
16.6 : M Shami to D Warner, Backs away to make room, but gets cramped for it. It takes the bottom edge and rolls on the off side for a run. 12 from this over!
Ankit Rajpoot is back on.
17.1 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, Slower delivery, full and around middle and off, Warner backs away to create room and flashes his bat at it. It takes the bottom half of his blade and travels to long off for a single.
17.2 : A Rajpoot to M Pandey, A touch short and on off, Pandey stays back footed and pushes it down through covers for a run.
17.3 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, Good footwork shown by Shami in the deep! A full toss outside off, Warner shuffles across the stumps and swings it through square leg. Shami rushes across to his right from fine leg and uses his boot to stop the ball inches before the rope. Saves two runs for his side.
17.4 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, A full toss, following the batsman down the leg side, Warner only manages to hit it down to long on for a run. Looks at the square leg umpire for a waist high full toss but gets nothing. The replays show that it's dipping in and is a good call from the official.
17.5 : A Rajpoot to M Pandey, The batsman has lofted it over covers. They pick up a single.
17.6 : A Rajpoot to D Warner, A near yorker on leg, Warner falls over a bit in his stance as he digs it out wide of short fine leg. Mujeeb misfields and they take a couple of runs. Rajpoot is not happy with the effort. 8 from the over, 20 in the last two.
Sam Curran is back into the attack.
18.1 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, FOUR! Just over short third man! Curran delivers it a little short and outside off, Pandey waits for it calmly inside the crease and spoons it over short third man. Rajpoot there reacts to his left and tries to catch it with his right hand (strangely) but it's too far away from him and goes to the fence.
18.2 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, Goes on the back foot and punches it through cover-point for a run.
18.3 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Well bowled. A low full toss around leg, Warner makes room and flicks it powerfully through mid-wicket for a run. 50-run stand comes up!
18.4 : Sam Curran to M Pandey, This one is wide outside off on a length, Pandey keeps his weight on the back foot and reaches out for this delivery. Forces it out towards extra cover where the fielder stops it at the edge of the circle. The batsmen have run through for a single.
18.5 : Sam Curran to D Warner, Smart bowling by Curran. He senses the movement from the batsman and bowls it on a shortish length outside off. Warner ends up reaching for it and fails to get bat on ball.
18.6 : Sam Curran to D Warner, EDGY FOUR! Bad luck for the bowler! Curran delivers it full and in the line of the middle stump, Warner hops back again and tries to loft it over covers but it takes the outside edge and runs fine down to third man for a boundary. 11 from the over, 31 in the last three.
Mohammed Shami to bowl the final over.
19.1 : M Shami to M Pandey, OUT! A straightforward catch for Karun Nair (sub) in the field at deep mid-wicket. Clever bowling by Shami. He follows the batsman down the leg side with a short delivery and Pandey still goes for the pull shot in spite of getting cramped for room. He mistimes it over the infield and Nair doesn't have to move much while accepting the catch. A handy partnership comes to an end.
Deepak Hooda is in next.
19.2 : M Shami to D Warner, Short delivery on middle and off, Warner tries to pull but misses. The keeper appeals after collecting the ball but nothing from the umpire. The replays later on show that there was some glove involved.
19.3 : M Shami to D Warner, Knocks a full ball down down through mid off for a run.
19.4 : M Shami to D Hooda, FOUR! Nothing much wrong with the ball but the batsman gets lucky here. A low full toss on middle, it's speared in, Hooda gets his bat down just in time and deflects it neatly off his pads to fine leg for a boundary. Let me tell you, had he missed that, he was plumb in front of the wickets.
19.5 : M Shami to D Hooda, FOUR! Gorgeous shot! An overpitched delivery on off at 144 kph, Hooda drills it back past the bowler who jumps and tries to stop the ball with his legs but it screams past him in no time and reaches the long off fence.
19.6 : M Shami to D Hooda, SIX! This has gone the distance. Hooda finishes it in style with a biggie. Receives a full toss around off, makes room and smokes it over the bowler's head for a maximum. 15 runs in this over, HYDERABAD END ON 150/4!
What a cracking finish for Hyderabad! Talk about momentum and they have it heading back to the pavilion. It was a laborious innings for them as scoring runs appeared to be quite tough. David Warner read the pitch nice and early and after losing his opening partner early, he just decided to stay out there and grind for his runs. It was so tough for them to score that they managed just 50 runs at the halfway mark but then the Aussie decided to press on the accelerator and got an able partner in Ma
Punjab were brilliant with the ball up front and maintained good intensity in the field. They made Hyderabad sweat hard for every run but once again, just like the last game against Chennai, they faltered in the end overs, conceding 58 runs in the last five overs. All the bowlers did a decent job but they should have done well in the last few overs.
Vijay Shankar is having a chat with Daren Ganga. Shankar says that it was not easy to bat early on, with the ball skidding on a lot. Hence, keeping wickets in hand initially was the plan as the ball was moving off the pitch. But then, says Vijay, the batting team got a move on as scoring became easier. On playing the spinners, VS says that they were bowling well, so it was important for Hyderabad to run hard between the wickets and play them out watchfully. Regarding the bowling length on this t
The pitch by the look of things appears to be on the slower side but last evening, in a similar situation, Kolkata made a complete mockery of the low target posted by Rajasthan. Are we in for a repeat telecast? Or will we see the Hyderabad bowlers making a match out of it? Do join us in a short while for the run chase.
0.0 : We are back for the chase. The Hyderabad team is out on the field. Chris Gayle and KL Rahul are the openers for Punjab. Hyderabad skipper, Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start the proceedings with the new ball.
0.1 : B Kumar to L Rahul, Punjab are off the mark straightaway. Good length ball on off and middle from Bhuvneshwar. There is a hint of swing on it. Rahul tucks it on the on side and gets to the other end.
0.2 : B Kumar to C Gayle, Excellent ball! Good length ball on off, the ball moves away from the southpaw. Gayle tries to play at it but misses. The ball just about beats his outside edge.
0.3 : B Kumar to C Gayle, Back of a length on middle, Gayle gets off the mark by tucking it towards mid-wicket.
0.4 : B Kumar to L Rahul, Good length ball on off, Rahul solidly blocks it.
0.5 : B Kumar to L Rahul, Full and outside off, KL walks down the track and then shoulders arms
0.6 : B Kumar to L Rahul, Outside off, watchfully pushed towards cover by Rahul. Tight start from Bhuvneshwar. Just 2 off it.
Sandeep Sharma to bowl from the other end.
1.1 : S Sharma to C Gayle, Sandeep bowls it full on leg, Gayle flicks it but finds the fielder at mid-wicket. Sandeep Sharma hesitantly appeals but the umpire is not interested.
1.2 : S Sharma to C Gayle, Good length ball just outside off. It keeps straight after hitting the deck. Gayle leaves it alone.
1.3 : S Sharma to C Gayle, FOUR! Not off the middle but Gayle will take it. Mid-wicket and long on are inside the circle so Gayle just has to clear them. Full length ball on off, Gayle moves his front leg away and swings it away over mid-wicket for a boundary.
1.4 : S Sharma to C Gayle, Brilliant fielding from Vijay Shankar. Full length ball on off, Gayle drives it through covers. Vijay Shankar inside the circle dives to his right and saves a boundary.

1.6 : S Sharma to C Gayle, Back of a length ball on middle and off, Gayle defends it with soft hands and keeps the strike.
2.1 : B Kumar to C Gayle, SIX! The Jamaican giant explodes and sends this one packing over long on. That's humongous. The delivery is in the line of the stumps and is a bit on the shorter side. Enough for the West Indian to swing his big biceps. He makes extraordinary connection and it goes deep into the stand at long on.

5.6 : M Nabi to M Agarwal, On middle and leg, helped straight to short fine leg. 38/1 in the Powerplay.

Strategic Break - The contest is evenly poised at the moment. Punjab have lost Chris Gayle but Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have done well to steady the ship. Punjab require 89 in 66 so the run rate should not be a concern if these two go along. Hyderabad need to get wickets. They have done well to keep the run-flow at check but only wickets can see them win this game. Rashid Khan to bowl after the break.
9.1 : R Khan to M Agarwal, Short on the pads, Mayank tucks it towards backward square leg for a single.
9.2 : R Khan to L Rahul, Short on middle, Rahul moves to his off stump but then stays back and tucks it towards long on. He runs the first one hard and goes for the second. 12.6 : M Nabi to L Rahul, FOUR! Fifty for KL Rahul. It has been a very good and sensible knock from him. He has looked in no danger and has done really well so far. Now he needs to stay there and see his team through. Shorter ball on off and middle, Rahul pulls it hard between deep mid-wicket and long on. Manish Pandey comes from long on and tries to save it with a dive. He misfields it and the ball goes away to the fence.

Sandeep Sharma is back into the attack.
14.1 : S Sharma to M Agarwal, Good length ball on off, Mayank flat-bats it wide of deep cover and takes a couple.

STRATEGIC BREAK. Punjab cruising through. Just 32 more needed to win. Not quite sure whether that dropped catch would have made any difference but maybe Hyderabad could have put some pressure on the new batsman. Anyways, another one-sided game on the cards...
16.1 : S Kaul to M Agarwal, SIX! As a fast bowler you hate being hit over your head for a maximum but Agarwal does not care and hits Kaul straight over his head for a maximum. He moves to 49 with that sweet strike.
16.2 : S Kaul to M Agarwal, FIFTY for Mayank Agarwal. His 5th in the Indian T20 League. This has been a superb knock from him. Punjab needed a match-winning knock from him. He gets there by flicking it to deep square leg.

17.1 : S Sharma to M Agarwal, OUT! Agarwal holes out. Just moments before the game could have been done. Not a great delivery, not a bad shot, just the execution was not that great. Short ball, outside off, coming in, Agarwal looks to pull but the extra bounce does him in. Drags it to deep mid-wicket where Vijay Shankar takes a simple catch. Fine knock and end of a terrific stand. 19 needed from 17. Not a collapse, surely?

17.6 : S Sharma to D Miller, OUT! Miller departs too! Is there a twist in the tale? Full and outside off, David looks to swing hard but is done in by the off-cutter. The shot comes before the ball and it goes off the top edge. Simple catch for David Hooda at long on. Excellent over from Sandeep - 3 runs and 2 wickets from it. 16 needed from 2 overs. Do we have a close finish?

19.5 : M Nabi to L Rahul, That's the match! Rahul has seen his side through and taken them over the finish line. Tossed up on middle, Raul strikes it towards long on. Warner in the deep misfields which allows them to get the second. Punjab win by 6 wickets.
They should have won and they did win but boy, did Punjab make a royal mess of a simple run chase. At the second strategic break, with 32 needed from 4 overs and 9 wickets in hand, it should not have gone down to 11 required in the final over. However, Rahul kept his cool in the end and saw his team through.
It is very rare that a team manages to defend a total in Mohali. They are due, aren't they? But not with this amount of dew. Hyderabad simply could not get their lines and lengths right and struggled throughout, except for the early wicket of Chris Gayle. The second-wicket stand of 114 between Rahul and Agarwal never let them be in the game and the last few moments were just because Punjab lost their cool. Sandeep Sharma was excellent with his 2/21 in his 4 overs while Rashid gave just 20 runs i
Another great outing for KL Rahul. As the tournament is wearing on, he is getting better and better which are good signs, not only for Punjab, but for India as well, with the World Cup looming closer. Agarwal continued his good run and if these two and the middle order can maintain their consistency, Punjab can finish in the top four.
Hyderabad skipper, Bhuvneshwar Kumar says it is hard to lose such a close game but he is happy with the way they bowled. Reckons it is difficult when there is dew and it is tough to bowl yorkers and slower balls. Tells that the dimension of the ground plays a big part and depending on that they decide where to bowl as it is difficult to bowl yorkers all the time. Feels that the break will help them freshen up.
Mayank Agarwal now says that somebody had to take the chance and go for the big shot as they were looking to finish it 2-3 balls early but could not, yet he is happy with the win. Says that he enjoyed batting with Rahul and that they just batted themselves in. Feels happy that Rahul stayed there till the end and saw them through.
Victorious Punjab captain, Ravichandran Ashwin, is all smiles. Admits that the win was too close to comfort and recounts last year when Punjab were running over their oppositions. Adds that there is scope for improvement. On the fact that 100 runs came in the last 10 overs of Punjab's bowling, Ashwin puts it down to the ground dimensions and the dew, as he reckons that the team bowled really well to David Warner to keep it quiet. On being informed that Punjab have now won 7 consecutive matches a
KL RAHUL HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that he could not quite start the tournament off the way he wanted but is now happy that the runs are coming. Observes that his fifties have come while batting second and is loving chasing. On his stand with Mayank Agarwal. Rahul says that they are childhood friends and understand each other well. Also, adds that Mandeep and Sarfaraz were also in the Bangalore squad earlier, so a majority of the group understands each other. Praises Mayank Agarw
Into the top 3, move Punjab. 8 points from 6 matches. Hyderabad drop down to 4th, with 6 points from as many games. After a dominant start, they are slowly getting some inconsistency. Who's playing on Tuesday? An exciting clash awaits. Chennai host Kolkata in game number 23 on April 9, 2019. Do tune in. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
