Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 57 runs
DC 143/8 (20)
Match over
0.0 : Hello and welcome to Qualifier 1, between Delhi and Mumbai in Dubai. A contest with stakes riding extremely high as the winner of this goes through straight to the final. Wary of the perks then, both these sides will be looking to give their best and storm into the finals.
Coming to Delhi first, they were on a spree of losses before plugging it in. They won their last league game against Bangalore and staked the other spot in the top 2. Their batsmen have been in stellar form while their bowling needs to step up. Given that Mumbai had the better of them in the 2 games during the league stage, Iyer's men would be looking to exact revenge now.
Mumbai, well they have had a near-perfect league phase. And we say near-perfect because of the hammering they received in the last game, against Hyderabad. If not for that, everything seems to have gone their way. Now, a win here and they are into the finals, with a good chance to claim back-to-back titles. Stay tuned for the toss and the team updates...
Pitch Report - Pommie Mbangwa is there for the Pitch Report. Says the center pitch is used and the dimensions should be equal. There is not a lot of dew now but should creep in later. Simon Doull is there as well. States there is grass right now on the wicket and it should aid the batters and get better as the game progresses. Mentions teams chasing are winning as the team batting first plays very cautiously. Mentions 185 should be a good total.
Toss - All in readiness for the toss for Qualifier 1 then. The two captains are out in the middle, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. Up goes the coin and it lands in Delhi's favour. THEY WILL BOWL!
Shreyas Iyer, Delhi's captain, says they want to bowl first, the wicket looks dry and dew might also play an important part later on. States that he is very motivated and the full team is up for the challenge and they need to maintain the same momentum. Informs that they are playing with the same team.
Rohit Sharma, Mumbai's skipper, says it looks like a good pitch, it might play a little slow, they need to get to a good score and they have a good bowling attack to defend any target. States the dew does not play on his mind and that they only need to play smartly and start well. Informs they have three changes Bumrah, Boult and Hardik are back while Tiwary, Kulkarni and Pattinson miss out. Ends by saying they are confident but this is a different ball game and they need to just focus
Delhi (Unchanged Playing XI) - Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Sams, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje.
Mumbai (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Quinton de Kock (WK), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (IN PLACE OF SAURABH TIWARY), Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult (IN PLACE OF JAMES PATTINSON), Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah (IN PLACE OF DHAWAL KULKARNI).
Right then, we are all set to begin in the 'Ring of Fire' for Qualifier 1. The umpires make their way out to the middle, followed by Delhi's players. Mumbai's openers, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, also make their way to the field. Daniel Sams, the left-arm pacer, to begin with the ball for Delhi. 3...2....1...Let's play!

Kagiso Rabada to Quinton de Kock, FOUR! Too fine. Slower length ball on off, Quinton de Kock waits for it and swings across the line. Sends it to the deep backward square leg boundary.
2.6 : Kagiso Rabada to Quinton de Kock, A couple off leg byes to finish. Shortish and on middle, de Kock swivels and looks to pull but misses to get hit on the top of his pad. It rolls towards third man and Mumbai sneak in 2 off leg byes.
Axar Patel to bowl now.
3.1 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, Flatter on off, driven down to long off for one.
3.2 : Axar Patel to Quinton de Kock, Flatter ball outside off, de Kock looks to go big over covers. Did not time it well but gets it over the infield. A couple taken.

4.1 : Anrich Nortje to Quinton de Kock, Around off, defended to the off side.
0.0 : Anrich Nortje, the other South-African, into the attack now.
4.2 : Anrich Nortje to Quinton de Kock, Leading edge but safe! Full and around off, de Kock looked to slam that on the leg side but gets a uppish leading edge. It falls safe ahead of the rushing fielder at third man. A single taken. De Kock has luck on his side, for now.
4.3 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! Brilliant shot! Fullish and around off, Suryakumar Yadav swings across the line and sends it in the gap between short mid-wicket and square leg for a boundary.
4.4 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! Not enough for a six but a four nonetheless. Shortish ball around off, Yadav swings it uppishly towards the mid-wicket fence. It lands on a couple of bounces and trickles into the boundary.
4.5 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, An appeal for caught behind, but not given. Short ball down the leg side, SKY looks to pull at it but to the naked eye he seems to have missed it. The keeper takes it and Delhi appeal but the umpire is unmoved. Shreyas comes close, has a chat but then decides not to take it. Lucky for Mumbai, maybe!
4.6 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, A dot to finish. Around off on a length, blocked to the off side.

5.5 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, Flatter and on middle, it is pushed back to the bowler.
5.6 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! So despite three dots, still 11 from the over and end of a brilliant Powerplay for Mumbai. They are 63 for 1 after it. Shorter and outside off, Yadav stays back and pushes it through covers. No chance of stopping that.
DRINKS! Rohit Sharma's dismissal has not stopped Mumbai from continuing the hitting. De Kock was smashing them and now, Suryakumar has started chipping in as well. It is the qualifiers and if Mumbai are targeting anything over 180, they need to keep the striking momentum going. That is what the 2 batters are doing. For Delhi, they would be hoping this break brings a breakthrough. Let's see which way it swings after the break. Axar Patel is back to bowl.
Review time! Delhi have taken a review for a caught behind. Ultra Edge is in. Flat line all the way through. NOT OUT!
6.1 : Axar Patel to Quinton de Kock, NOT OUT! The huge appeal and the review does not pay off for Delhi. Flatter ball around off, de Kock looks to reverse sweep it but to the naked eye he seems to have missed it. Rishabh Pant takes the ball and appeals fervently but the umpire is unmoved. Shreyas Iyer has a chat and then flashes the 'T'. But Ultra Edge pours cold water on his hopes. No knick there at all.
6.2 : Axar Patel to Quinton de Kock, On the pads, tucked to the leg side for a single.
6.3 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, Flatter and outside off, pushed down to long off for a single.

6.5 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! He has found the gap nicely. Flatter and outside off, Surya rocks back and cuts it nicely. In the gap between short third man and backward point. A boundary results.
6.6 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, Flatter and outside off, driven down to long off for a single.
7.1 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, Flatter on the stumps, pushed back to the bowler.
7.2 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, SIX! High and handsome! Floated around off, Yadav gets down and mows a slog sweep over mid-wicket. The ball was high in the air but ended up sailing comfortably over the boundary.
7.3 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, On off, tapped to the right of the bowler, to long on, for a single.
7.4 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Quinton de Kock, OUT! CAUGHT! A massive relief for Delhi fans. A good catch from Shikhar Dhawan as well. Tossed up around off, Quinton comes down the track and looked to loft it over long off. However, he does not get his timing right. It goes sky-high in the air near long off. Shikhar settles under it and takes it comfortably.
7.5 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Suryakumar Yadav, Floated on off, pushed down to long on for a single.
7.4 : Ishan Kishan is out in the middle.

Axar Patel is back in. 2-0-20-0 so far. Very expensive.
9.1 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, Around off, pushed to cover.
9.2 : Axar Patel to Suryakumar Yadav, On the shorter side on off with the angle, Yadav goes back and pulls it to mid-wicket for a couple.

9.5 : Axar Patel to Ishan Kishan, Quicker one around off, Ishan blocks it to the left of the bowler. Axar runs there and stops it.
9.6 : Axar Patel to Ishan Kishan, Two runs to finish. Floated around off, Kishan gets down and sweeps it. It is to the left of wide long on who gets there, dives and contains it. A brace.
10.1 : Kagiso Rabada to Suryakumar Yadav, On a good length on middle, glanced to short mid-wicket.
0.0 : Kagiso Rabada is back!
10.2 : Kagiso Rabada to Suryakumar Yadav, Around off on a length, tapped to third man for a run.
10.3 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, Length and around off, Kishan jumps and tucks it towards short third man. Mumbai look for a single but decide against it in the end as the fielder was quick to get there.
10.4 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, On off, clipped in front of square leg for a quick single.
10.5 : Kagiso Rabada to Suryakumar Yadav, Play and a miss! Length ball around off, SKY looking to play the ramp shot, over the keeper's head, to the third man boundary. But he misses. Should be careful Surya, could have been an easy outside edge.
10.6 : Kagiso Rabada to Suryakumar Yadav, Short ball, Suryakumar mistimes the pull shot. It goes and lands safely ahead of long on. A single. He will keep strike in the next over.
Anrich Nortje comes back.
11.1 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, Around off, stroked well but straight to cover-point.
11.2 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, Slow and full around off, a cover-drive but straight to the fielder at cover.
11.3 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! That is magnificent from Suryakumar. Brings up his 50, the 4th in this edition. Full and on off, Yadav swings it uppish but safely wide of the diving mid-wicket fielder. The ball races away for a boundary. Disdainful shot.
11.4 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, Now he gives room on the off side and looks to uppercut the length ball but misses.
11.5 : Anrich Nortje to Suryakumar Yadav, OUT! TAKEN! Brilliant captaincy from Iyer to shuffle his bowlers. SKY was getting impatient and you could see that. Shortish ball around off, Suryakumar goes for the pull. He does not time it well. It had more of the height but not the distance. It goes straight down the throat of Daniel Sams at fine leg.
Who will walk out to bat now? Kieron Pollard is in the middle now.
11.6 : Anrich Nortje to Kieron Pollard, A huge appeal for LBW but not given. Delhi do not have any reviews left. Very full ball on off, Pollard looks to jam it out but misses, to the naked eye. It hits his boots and Delhi go up in appeal but the umpire is unfazed. No reviews left. That looked like boot first and before bat.
Ravichandran Ashwin to bowl his last. 3-0-26-2 for him.
12.1 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Ishan Kishan, Flatter on off, clipped to the on side for a single.
12.3 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Ishan Kishan, Flatter on off, tapped to the off side.
12.2 : Who will walk out to bat now? Krunal Pandya comes in to the middle now.
12.4 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Ishan Kishan, On the shorter side on the off pole, pushed down to long on for a single.
12.5 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Krunal Pandya, On off, Krunal taps it to cover-point.
12.2 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Kieron Pollard, OUT! CAUGHT! Delhi are slowly coming back into this game here. An excellent catch by Kagiso Rabada. Floated on middle, Pollard goes for his typical heave, over the leg side. He wanted to clear the wide long on fence for a maximum but does not time it well. It is falling ahead of Rabada at wide long on but Kagiso runs, puts in a superb dive and takes a good catch, in the end.
12.6 : Ravichandran Ashwin to Krunal Pandya, He is up and running with a single now. Fuller on middle and leg, Pandya clips it to mid on and takes a single. Ashwin finishes with 4-0-29-3. Scintillating!

13.5 : Daniel Sams to Ishan Kishan, Shortish and outside off, Kishan covers his stumps and bunts this down to long on for one.
13.6 : Daniel Sams to Krunal Pandya, A single. Just the 5 runs off it. Another very good over for Delhi. Outside off, KP guides this to the left of the keeper and takes an easy one.
DRINKS! This game has swung into Delhi's favor now! Mumbai at one stage looked like they would get close to 200 but now even 180 looks farfetched. Timely wickets for Delhi has helped them crawl back into the game. The batting side still have the Pandya brothers and Kishan so they could finish strongly. Delhi would want to deny that and keep them around the 160-run mark which should be under par. An important passage awaits.
Ashwin is done with his 4 overs. Kagiso Rabada is back in. 2-0-10-0 are his figures so far.
14.1 : Kagiso Rabada to Krunal Pandya, Fullish and around off, Krunal looks to defend but gets an inside edge. It goes to fine leg for a single.
14.2 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, Short ball, Kishan pulls at it. It is uppish for a while but lands safely in the square leg region. A single.
14.3 : Kagiso Rabada to Krunal Pandya, Just short! Pandya this time. Full and around off, KP swings this in the air. It lands safely ahead of Nortje at fine leg and Mumbai take a single.
14.4 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, FOUR! Not timed well but he gets a boundary nonetheless. Short ball, Kishan swivels and pulls at it. He does not time it well. But gets it over the infield. It is racing away to the mid-wicket boundary. Sams runs in and puts a dive but fails to contain it.
14.5 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, SIX! That is why he is called a pocket dynamo, Ishan Kishan. Short ball around off, Kishan pulls it mercilessly over deep fine leg. It was a huge maximum.
14.6 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, Goes for the pull again, it lands on a bounce ahead of Nortje at fine leg. Just the single. 14 runs off it, Mumbai get what they wanted.
15.1 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, On the pads, tucked to fine leg for a couple.
0.0 : Anrich Nortje is back to bowl. 2-0-13-1 for him.
15.2 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, FOUR! He has got it in the gap. Low full toss on off, Kishan swings across the line. Does well to get it in the gap between mid-wicket and square leg, for a boundary.
15.3 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, Full and on off, swung away but straight to mid-wicket. Just the single this time.
15.4 : Anrich Nortje to Krunal Pandya, SIX! What about this for a shot! Short ball, Krunal Pandya pulls it well over fine leg. That was a mighty six and it travelled well.
15.5 : Anrich Nortje to Krunal Pandya, This time, he knocks it to mid-wicket and takes a quick single.
15.6 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, FOUR! Around the wicket from Nortje, but it does not make a difference. A pacy shortish ball outside off, Ishan did not have to do much. He just steers it wide of the keeper and the pace of the ball does the rest. It races away to the third man fence. 18 off that over.
Marcus Stoinis into the attack now.
16.1 : Marcus Stoinis to Krunal Pandya, OUT! TAKEN! Good catch by Daniels Sams. But the problem for Delhi is that, the batting might of Mumbai will keep coming. Shortish ball outside off, Krunal looks to slog that over deep point, looking for a biggie. However, he ends up getting it off the toe edge. And when that happens, the ball does not travel far. Straight to Sams at deep backward point.
0.0 : Hardik Pandya walks out to the middle now.
16.2 : Marcus Stoinis to Hardik Pandya, Full and around off, driven to the left of mid off for a single. Hardik is up and running straightaway.
16.3 : Marcus Stoinis to Ishan Kishan, Fullish and outside off, Kishan swings and gets it just over mid off. A single. There was two but Pandya was not quick to respond there.
16.4 : Marcus Stoinis to Hardik Pandya, On the pads, Pandya closes the face of his bat to flick it to deep backward square leg. Just the single though.
16.5 : Marcus Stoinis to Ishan Kishan, Outside off, Kishan strokes it over the man at cover-point. It is to the left of sweeper cover who has to do some running. Mumbai run a quick two meanwhile.
16.6 : Marcus Stoinis to Ishan Kishan, Outisde off, very full, Ishan looks to dig it out but misses.
Daniel Sams to bowl out. 3-0-27-0 so far.
17.1 : Daniel Sams to Hardik Pandya, SIX! Punished! Low full toss on off and middle with the angle from round the wicket, Pandya says thank you, flicks it over fine leg for a maximum.

17.3 : Daniel Sams to Hardik Pandya, Very full and on middle, jammed out through short mid-wicket for a single.
17.4 : Daniel Sams to Ishan Kishan, Short ball, Kishan goes for the pull but mistimes it. It falls ahead of long on for one.
17.5 : Daniel Sams to Hardik Pandya, Full and well outside off, Hardik reaches out and strokes it to long off for a single. Would have been a wide had he left it.
17.6 : Daniel Sams to Ishan Kishan, SIX! Pace on, crunched and six! Good length ball around off, Kishan swings across the line. Gets it uppishly over mid-wicket and over the stretched hands of a leaping Rabada for a biggie. 17 runs off that over. Sams goes for 44 in his 4 overs, without any wicket.
18.1 : Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya, SIX! Just misses the yorker length, Rabada, and he is made to pay for it. Full and around off, Pandya swings across the line and sends it over the mid-wicket fielder for a biggie.
0.0 : Kagiso Rabada to bowl out. 3-0-24-0 for him.
18.2 : Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya, SIX! And another one! Fullish and around off, Pandya powers this one over deep square leg. Bigger than the last one, this.
18.3 : Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya, Yorker on the stumps, dug out back to the bowler.
18.4 : Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya, Yorker, outside off, jammed out to the off side for a single. Good comeback from Rabada. Back-to-back yorkers.
18.5 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, FOUR! In the gap from Ishan Kishan. He moves to the leg side, Rabada follows him with a low full toss, Kishan manages to squeeze it out between cover and mid off and the ball races away for a boundary.
18.6 : Kagiso Rabada to Ishan Kishan, Full and around off, swung to deep square leg for a single.
Who will bowl the last over? Nortje? Yep, need to contain Mumbai to under 10 runs in this over. Let's see if he can do it.
19.1 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, Very full and outside off, Kishan was outside the off stump line as well, strokes this on the leg side for a single.
19.2 : Anrich Nortje to Hardik Pandya, Very full and on off, driven back to the bowler who does well to stop it.
19.3 : Anrich Nortje to Hardik Pandya, SIX! PUMPED! Full and outside off, he picks it up from there and sends it packing over wide long on for a biggie.
19.4 : Anrich Nortje to Hardik Pandya, SIX! All the way again! Full toss outside off, HP moves to the off side and lofts it well over wide long off. 50 of the partnership comes up as well. Just 21 balls!
19.5 : Anrich Nortje to Hardik Pandya, Short and slow outside off, Hardik goes for the pull but fails to get bat on ball. Pant fails to collect it well and Mumbai take a run off byes.
19.6 : Anrich Nortje to Ishan Kishan, SIX! Mumbai finish in stunning style. Full toss outside off, Ishan Kishan moves a touch to the off side and sends this soaring over deep cover. Gets to his half ton as well, Kishan. What a season he is having! MUMBAI FINISH ON 200/5.
What a power-packed performance from Mumbai! 78 runs in the last 5 overs and one can probably say they have got a total which is well above par.
Mumbai came out with intent today after being inserted! They lost Rohit early but that did not stop Yadav and de Kock to go after the bowlers. They had  a brilliant Powerplay, however, they did stutter in the middle overs as they lost a few wickets quickly. Kishan and Krunal though steadied the ship. Kishan was the star as his knock is what could well be the difference between the two sides. Pandya also did what he ususally does that is finish it off brilliantly. Overall, Mumbai will be very
The target is a huge one! Such a chase in a high pressure game is just not going to be easy. They will need all their big guns to fire, Delhi. Mumbai on the other hand, will back their bowlers to defend this. Stay tuned for the second essay.
Hardik Pandya is up for a chat. He says the idea was to keep the momentum going all the while in such important games. Staying positive was important. On Kishan, Hardik says that he has played like a little pocket dynamo. Kishan can open and even at No. 4, he has played really well. Pandya states that he loves batting. Adds that if one works hard, it will eventually pay off. Finishes by saying 200 should be hopefully enough.
The Delhi bowling, except for Ashwin, was quite off color! Sams had a day to forget, Rabada was not at his best. Nortje took a real pounding. It was only the middle phase where they managed to do decently but in totality, you have to say it is not what Iyer would have wanted.
0.1 : We are all set for the chase to begin. 201 is the target for Delhi for a leap to the finals. The Mumbai players are in a huddle near the ropes. After the final words of wisdom, they take their positions on the field. Delhi's openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw also stride out to the middle. Trent Boult to begin with the ball for Mumbai. Here we go...
Trent Boult to Prithvi Shaw, On a length outside off, tucked to cover-point.
0.2 : Trent Boult to Prithvi Shaw, OUT! TAKEN! Prithvi Shaw, not your day today lad. He has been miserable against Boult and that continues. On a length around off, Prithivi hangs his bat outside the line, looking to defend. But the ball takes a faint outside edge and goes to the keeper, who takes it with ease. Delhi are off to the worst possible start.
0.3 : Trent Boult to Ajinkya Rahane, On a length around off, pushed to the off side.

A thumping win for Mumbai to reach yet another final! How strong are they as a team! They just seem so complete and so very strong.
