Hello and a very warm welcome to this warm-up match between Pakistan and West Indies. Both these teams have tasted success at the T20 World Cup before and they would be eager to get some game-time before heading into the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup, 2021.
When it comes to ICC events, Pakistan are always considered to be one of the dark horses of the competition and they pose a serious threat to the opposition. This time around, they are led by Babar Azam and this Pakistan side certainly has a huge amount of experience playing in the UAE. They have a solid and experienced batting lineup that can destroy any bowling unit and the inclusion of Shoaib Malik will give them a big boost. They also have some quality bowlers in their ranks and the men in g
West Indies, the defending champions, seem to be a top side on paper and they are known to play fearless cricket, especially in this format of the game. This is one side that has a number of match-winners and they certainly know how to play in a mega event like the T20 World Cup. Kieron Pollard and his men would look to regroup before the league stage and it will be interesting to see their approach going into this warm-up game. Now the target is not a big one and Pakistan will back themselves to chase it down especially when you can use all your batters. Windies, on the other hand, need to bowl well if they want to defend this. If they do manage to do so, it is going to be a big confidence booster for them and if Pakistan do not chase it down, it could well be morale deflating. Join us for the second essay in a bit.
Pakistan can be really pleased with how they bowled. 6 bowlers got to roll their arms over and when you have restricted the opposition to below 140, most of them would have had done a good job. However, they will still not be pleased with the last over by Haris Rauf. We have seen him go for a few lately at the death and it was the same case here. Overall though, they will be quite pleased.
20 from the last over and that would give West Indies some much-needed momentum. This has been an interesting game so far and Pakistan would be quite happy with their show. Quite a strange batting performance from the Windies. They have treated this game like a practice match and that isn’t wrong, to be honest. All of the top-order batters took their time, they probably wanted to acclimatize to the conditions here. Quite an easy win for Pakistan in the end and their preparation for the World Cup has begun in a pretty good manner. Their bowlers were on the mark to keep Windies down to a low score and the batters chased it down easily.
Pakistan did lose Mohammad Rizwan in the Powerplay but it was once again their main man, Babar Azam who rose to the occasion. He along with Fakhar Zaman, who was initially not in the 15, put up a really good stand to take their side to the brink of victory. Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez then fell in quick succession but Shoaib Malik and Zaman ensured there were no more wickets to fall and finished the job in style.
The Windies bowlers did not have enough runs to defend but they still won't be happy with their bowling. Pakistan chased this down with ease and Kieron Pollard would have loved their bowlers to make it difficult for them. There were a few positives though like Ravi Rampaul who bowled quite economically. Hayden Walsh too, did go for runs but he is in the side to take wickets and he did get two. Overall though, it was an under-par performance from the defending champions.
