Hello and a warm welcome to match number 38 of the Indian T20 League. It's Punjab taking on Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it is a crucial match for both sides. Chennai lost the reverse fixture by a huge margin earlier in the season but have found a new wind and have kept their hopes alive. With match-winning performances from Mukesh Choudhary and MS Dhoni, Chennai will look to build a bit of momentum with another win here tonight.

Strategic break. This has been a brilliant phase of play for Punjab and Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa have provided the perfect platform to have a launch now. Chennai will be aware of the power-hitters to come and will look to pick up wickets in order to keep the scoring rate in check. One of the two set-batters has to go big now because there's no point in having nine wickets in hand and just ticking along.

It's a strong finish from Punjab - amassing 35 runs off the last two overs! It was a well-planned innings from them and they have posted a very challenging total on the board. If we divide this innings into four phases, 37 runs came in the Powerplay, 35 in the next four, 51 in the following 5 and 64 in the remaining overs at the death. 
Bhanuka Rajapaksa comes up for a quick chat. The Lankan says that the wicket is a bit slow and he and Shikhar Dhawan were looking to get a score around 170 but have got more than that on the board. Mentions that the ball is gripping in the wicket and they are happy with the score. About his knock, he says that the two left-arm spinners were bowling when he came in and that allowed him to settle in. Welcome back! The players of Punjab spread on the field. Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the openers for Chennai. 
Chennai started well, bowling disciplined lines and keeping Punjab in check inside the Powerplay. They also bagged the wicket of Mayank Agarwal but then dropped the two chances offered by Bhanuka Rajapaksa. The Sri Lankan punished them for those errors, by stroking 42 runs, and more importantly by forming a strong alliance of 110 runs with Shikhar Dhawan. Talking about Dhawan, he assessed the conditions superbly. Took his time initially and then upped his game, especially after the halfway mark.

Yet another riveting contest but brilliant death bowling from Punjab has seen them hold on to a crucial win. They went for less than 9 runs an over to seal the victory and in doing so have completed the double over the reigning champions.
Ravindra Jadeja, the captain of Chennai, says that they started well with the new ball but gave away 10-15 runs too many in the end overs. Mentions that they didn't execute their plans well. Adds that Rayudu was batting brilliantly but again says that they should have restricted Punjab under 170-175. Tells that they are not getting good starts in the first 6 overs and they need to improve on that and come back stronger.
Chennai almost pulled it off and a big reason for that is the knock Ambati Rayudu played. Rayudu single-handedly dragged them back into the game and put them in a winning position. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja hit a few lusty blows but in the end, it was a bridge too far. Chennai have now lost six out of their eight games and need a miracle to make it through to the playoffs. The top order failed miserably but Ruturaj Gaikwad showed some form which is a positive sign for them.
Punjab made it difficult for themselves but their pace attack looked in good touch and they did come through when their side needed it the most. After a terrific start in the Powerplay from Sandeep Sharma and Rishi Dhawan, both of whom were making a comeback into the side, Punjab had the upper hand.
