0.0 : Papua New Guinea finish on a high to get to 136! 37 runs came off the last 3 overs, and they will be thinking that had a couple of batters chipped in, they would have reached 150, if not beyond that mark. After being put into bat, Papua New Guinea were rocked early, losing Tony Ura and Lega Siaka inside the first two overs. Despite those twin blows, Assad Vala batted with intent and capitalised on the rare loose deliveries offered by the Windies. However, he could not kick on and perished o
For the West Indies, it was a disciplined start to their bowling effort, with Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Alzarri Joseph enjoying success in the Powerplay. Rovman Powell had plenty of bowlers to choose from and rotated them well to keep a lid on the scoring rate. The partnership between Sese Bau and Charles Amini posed a threat to the Windies, but Andre Russell answered his skipper's call by breaking the stand. Despite getting rid of Bau, the West Indies could not close out the innings
Papua New Guinea's star with the bat, Sese Bau is in for a chat. He says that it started off a bit slow but he built up the innings well. Adds that it is his first T20 World Cup fifty and he is feeling good. Mentions that the wicket is on the slower side but it got a bit hard towards the end. Ends by saying that if their bowlers can stick to the plan, they can defend this total.
Right then, Papua New Guinea have gained a bit of momentum towards the end of their batting effort, but the total does not seem to be enough against the batting might of the West Indies. But as they say, cricket is a funny game, and PNG will believe, and the belief will grow stronger with a couple of early wickets. As for the West Indies, chasing 137 is in no way a tall order and if they start well, they might contemplate giving their NRR an early boost. Back in a bit for the chase.
