Police launch drive to put brakes on train stuntmen in Mumbai

After stunts in local trains was reported in the past few days, the Mumbai railway police commissioner Prabhat Kumar organised a special drive against these youths who not only create nuisance but also endanger their lives.

"On the first day of the drive, the Wadala railway police arrested five youth and detained 15 minors aged between 12 years and 17 years. All them are residents of Wadala and Bandra slum colonies.

All minors were sent to Dongri Observation Home while five were released on personal bonds in presence of their parents," said DCP (Central Railway Zone) GS Bhandare of Mumbai railway police and added driver will be intensified soon.

To control such activities, the drive was organised across the 17 railway police stationsin Mumbai railway police commissionerate, said Bhandare.

The police personnel patrolling on the platform will nab commuters who perform stunts and they would be booked under section 156 (travelling on roof, steps or engine of a train) Indian Railway Act.

The divisional Assistant Commissioners of police (ACPs) will supervise the drive and send weekly report to Railway Police Commissioner Prabhat Kumar," said Bhandare.

Bhandare appealed to the commuters that if they found anyone performing stunt in local trains, they should contact the GRP Control room 022-23759283/022-3759201  or GRP Helpline 9833331111, said Bhandare.

GRP has taken action against 24 commuters, most from harbour line, for travelling dangerously.

Prabhat Kumar, GRP commissioner, said: "They have identified various spots on harbour, main and central line, where there are reports of stunts being performed. A squad will be deployed to catch such people."
