Property worth Rs30 lakh gutted

A big fire broke out at the industrial estate in Goregaon (E), which houses Jaipan Industries and Future Studio, on Monday. Shooting of the serial ‘Rakhi’ was in progress on the terrace of the estate when the blaze started on the ground floor at 12.30 pm. People ran helter skelter and informed the fire personnel.

The flames were brought under control after seven hours by fire tenders from Marol, Goregoan and Andheri. There were no casualties in the incident.

“It is difficult to ascertain how the fire started. The ground floor, first floor and the terrace of the estate were completely destroyed by the fire while some equipment was damaged by smoke in the Future Studio. The property damage is estimated at Rs30 lakh,” said PD Kargopikar, joint chief fire officer. 

“Fire brigade officials did not get a proper place to park their vehicle as all open the spaces were stacked with packaging material of the units operating in the industrial estate. This created a problem for fire personnel,” he said. 

Sanjay Swaroop, a television actor and the eyewitness of the incident said, “A similar incident occurred here two weeks ago. Despite this, no proper arrangements have been made to avert such mishaps. We managed get out of the place after a spot boy informed us of the fire.”
