In a hit-and-run case, a 47-year-old banker, Rangarajan Narasimhan, paid with his life when allegedly attempting to flee in his black Hyundai Accent (MH-12 DG 3009) after hitting a Maruti Zen (MH-14 P 3346) in Wanavdi area on Saturday night.

The driver of the Maruti Zen, Raju Jamal Sahikh (28), has lodged an FIR in Wanavdi police station. He, along with his brother, Kamuddin, who was also travelling in the car, suffered injuries to their legs and hands.

They were discharged from hospital after preliminary treatment, and their car was partially damaged.

Narasimhan allegedly panicked after the accident and sped along the road. Even as he did so, his vehicle hit the concrete road divider. Such was the impact that the front of the Hyundai car was mangled and its driver seriously injured.

A resident of Rajgrah Housing Society on Salunke Vihar Road in Kondhwa area, Narasimhan was head of Development Corporation Bank’s (DCB) branch on Pune-Satara Road.

He is survived by his aged mother, wife and two minor sons.
Thorat said, “Narasimhan lost control over his vehicle and hit Shaikh’s car close to Mahadji Chhatri Chowk. After the accident, Narasimhan panicked and fled from the spot at high speed. Near Wanavdi Bazaar, he lost control over his car again and hit the road divider.”

Residents of the area gathered at the spot and, along with the police, extricated Narasimhan from the badly damaged car and rushed to a private hospital in Wanavdi. “But the doctors pronounced him brought dead,” Thorat added.
