Pune to host exhibition to showcase rare, old currency notes

The Numismatic Society of Maharashtra, Pune, has organised an exhibition of rare and old currency notes from all over the world, with main focus on demonetised notes from Germany that suffered the maximum losses during the two World Wars.

The exhibition, ‘Transition of Paper Currency in the world, with special reference to Germany’, will have stalls displaying and dealing in ancient notes. The stalls will be set up at Shri Chatuhshrungi Seva Samiti’s Sanskrutik Bhavan Hall, Senapati Bapat Road, between November 5 and 7.

The German notes specially printed during both World Wars and some 18th century notes will also be displayed. Some notes from the 19th century and also a note worth $100 trillion from Zimbabwe will be displayed.

Secretary of the society, Devdutta Angal said, “We organise exhibitions every year. This year, we are displaying different rare notes. One can see the entire journey of currency notes in more than 20 countries. We actually have a collection of about 4,000 currency notes, but it will be possible to display only 2,000 notes.’’

The exhibition is open to all and free of charge, and will be open
between 10 am and 6 pm.
