Toll on NH-8 set to increase from September 1

If you are planning your travel to Gujarat or further north to Delhi, from Saturday motorists would have to pay more toll for plying on the Dahisar-Surat section of the National Highway (NH)-8 that connects further to Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Delhi.

Starting September 1, 2018, revised toll charges will be levied on the four toll plaza's namely Charoti, Khaniwade, Bhagwada and Boriach between Dahisar and Surat. The toll amount been increased between Rs 5 to 15 for several categories of vehicles. However, this does not include the toll booth located at Dahisar for which toll rates remain unchanged.

According to revised toll now, in case of Charoti toll plaza near Palghar, monthly pass for cars will cost Rs 1,850 compared to Rs 1,800 currently. For multiple trips in one day, toll will revised to Rs 95 instead Rs 90. However, toll for single trip for cars will remain the same at Rs 60. Further for light commercial vehicles and trucks/buses, toll has increased by Rs 5 to Rs 110 and Rs 215 instead of Rs 105 and Rs 210. For multi-axle vehicles, toll has been increased to Rs 345 instead of Rs 335.

In case of Khaniwade toll plaza near Virar, monthly passes for cars will now cost Rs 2,030 instead of Rs 1,975 currently. Single trips for cars will now cost Rs 70 instead of Rs 65 currently. However, for multiple trips in one day, toll remains the same at Rs 100. In case of light commercial vehicles and trucks/buses, toll amount will be Rs 120 and Rs 235 instead of Rs 115 and Rs 230 currently. Lastly, for multi-axle vehicles toll will be Rs 380 instead of Rs 370 currently.

Remaining two toll booths, are located in Gujarat for which too toll will been increased between Rs 5 to Rs 15. A National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) official, said, "The revision of toll rates is as a part of its yearly toll revision plan for which IRB Surat-Dahisar Tollway Limited is the concessionaire. The revision is between Rs 5 to 15 for single journey and Rs 5 to Rs 15 for multiple journey trips along with it cost of monthly passes has also increased."

IRB was given toll collection right in February 2009 for a period of 12 years till 2021 for six laning of the particular stretch of NH-8. NH-8 is a crucial link and thousands of motorists ply on this route for travelling to Gujarat or further north towards Delhi. The highway is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project undertaken by NHAI.
