In a significant development, scientists have predicted that Earth has about five billion years before the Sun loses its energy thus swallowing most of the celestial bodies present in our solar system.
According to new research that claims Earth now has only a billion years before it slowly fades out. The planet will not cease by fire, a collision, or alien invasion but will perish within the face of decreasing oxygen reserves.
Presently, oxygen accounts for 20 percent of the Earth's atmosphere. A lot of this is produced by plants on the planet, which keeps all creatures alive. As per the research claims Earth is already shedding oxygen and will expel most of the life-sustaining gas from its atmosphere in a billion years.
Researchers from Georgia Tech and Toho University collaborated to ascertain the life span of oxygen in the planet's atmosphere, which in turn will essentially dictate how quickly life vanishes from Earth - an inevitable truth for all things born in the universe. They published their study in Nature Geoscience.

In order to reach a conclusion, scientists developed simulations of basic systems on Earth - including climate, biological and geological processes that play a significant role in life on planet Earth. During the study, the scientists observed the change in oxygen levels as the stimulation shuffled between air, water, and rock.
The atmosphere as we know will continue to flourish for about a billion years, after which it will begin to deteriorate rapidly. 1.1 billion years from now, oxygen levels are slated to drop to a whopping 1% of the planet's current capability.
