In pics: Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the 'GOAT' goalscorer in football and he truly is a legend

During the Italian Super Cup clash between Juventus and Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions registered a 2-0 win but Cristiano Ronaldo etched his name in the history books. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal and it resulted in his 760th goal as he officially became the greatest goalscorer in the history of football. Cristiano Ronaldo now tops the list for the highest goalscorers in world football history as he overtook the tally of Josef Bican of Austria. Josef Bican actually had 805 goals but this number does not stand for two reasons. According to some football websites, Josef Bican netted at least 27 goals in Rapid Vienna's amateur teams and in unofficial matches. Second, some data during his 1952 stint with the Czech second division is also missing and thus, his tally stood at 759 goals. There is also a dispute over whether Pele has the most goals in his football career. On his Instagram handle, Pele says that he has scored over 1200 goals but officially, he has 757 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo secured his fourth title in Italy Football. His most prolific scoring year came in 2013 when he found the back of the net 69 times, but he also recorded 34 in 2007, 35 in 2008, 30 in 2009, 48 in 2010, 60 in 2011, 63 in 2012, 61 in 2014, 57 in 2015, 55 in 2016 and 53 in 2017. Cristiano Ronaldo's La Liga tally stands at a total of 311, with 134 in the Champions League, 84 in the Premier League, 67 in Serie A, 30 in World Cup qualifying, 31 in qualifying for the European Championships, 13 in the FA Cup and seven at the World Cup. At home, Ronaldo has 410 to his name, with 304 coming away and 46 at neutral venues. He is part of five UEFA Champions League titles and he is only one behind this legend. Paco Gento currently holds the record of the player in possession of the most UCL titles, having won six trophies during an illustrious 18 years in Real Madrid.
