Tokyo Paralympics 2020: Indians who won multiple medals in the same edition of the sporting event

Singhraj Adhana got heads turning after he clinched two medals in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 edition. He had first won bronze in Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1, preventing China from clean sweeping the podium in that event.

His second medal came in the Mixed 50m Pistol Shooting event where the 39-year-old Singhraj Adhana took the silver medal at 216.7.

Indian shooter Avani Lekhara had won a bronze medal in the R8 women's 50m rifles 3P SH1 event and this was her second medal in the ongoing Paralympics.

Avani had also created history by winning the gold medal in the women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. The 19-year-old became the first woman from India to win a Paralympics gold medal.

Avani had finished with a Paralympic Record and in-process equalled the World Record with 249.6 points.

Joginder Singh Bedi had won the silver medal in the shot put event at the 1984 New York Paralympics.

He had even bagged a bronze each in discus and javelin throw events. He holds the record of being the Indian with the most Paralympic medals.

In this year itself, India has the highest number of medals won in a single edition of the Paralympics. In fact, India will end their campaign in Tokyo with double the medals it had in its Paralympics history.

Interestingly, before the start of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, India had won 12 medals in the showpiece events, having competed in 11 editions of the Games since its introduction in 1960.

Just earlier this week, athlete Praveen Kumar (Sport Class T44) clinched a silver medal in the men's high jump T64 final. Paddler Bhavina Patel had opened India's tally in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics while Harvinder Singh created history and won bronze medal in recurve archery.

Javelin thrower Sumit Antil clinched gold, Nishad Kumar, Devendra Jhajharia, Praveen Kumar, Yogesh Kathuniya and Mariyappan Thangavelu clinched silver medals.

Sundar Singh Gurjar, Singhraj Adhana and Sharad Kumar have won bronze for India in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.

In the upcoming events, the Indian contingent is expected to win more medals - especially in badminton - as many athletes have entered the finals and are even playing for the bronze medal.
