The All India Football Federation announced on Saturday the appointment of Manolo Marquez as the new head coach of the men's national team. Marquez, a Spanish manager, will be taking over the position previously held by Igor Stimac, who was relieved of his duties in June following India's elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Currently managing FC Goa, Marquez will officially assume his role with Team India in June 2025, coinciding with the conclusion of his contract with the Goan club in May of the same year. In the meantime, he will be juggling his responsibilities by coaching both FC Goa and the national squad simultaneously.

"The All India Football Federation’s Executive Committee meeting deliberated on the appointment of the new head coach for the Senior Men’s National Team, and selected Manolo Marquez for the job, effective immediately.

"During the 2024-25 season, Mr. Marquez will continue his role as the head coach of first team at FC Goa, handling both responsibilities concurrently before assuming the national coaching role on a full-time basis," the AIFF said in a statement.

Manolo Marquez, a 55-year-old with a wealth of experience and a profound understanding of Indian football, particularly in the development of young talent within the national team, has made significant contributions to the sport.

Under his guidance at Hyderabad FC, several national team players have emerged, showcasing the impact of his leadership. Marquez began his coaching journey in India in 2020 and has since managed operations at two ISL franchises. He initially led Hyderabad FC from 2020 to 2023 before taking on his current role at FC Goa.

Marquez's coaching achievements include clinching the ISL Championship with Hyderabad FC during the 2021-22 season. His impressive coaching background in Spain includes stints with reputable teams such as Las Palmas (top division), Las Palmas B, Espanyol B, Badalona, Prat, and Europa (third division). His experience and success in both India and Spain highlight his expertise and dedication to the sport.
