Englishman David Booth on Tuesday signed a three-year deal to coach Mumbai League champions Mahindra United from the coming season.

Booth quit his role as coach of Mumbai FC after a two-year stint to take over the mantle replacing Derrick Pereira for an undisclosed sum, a media release from Mahindra United said on Tuesday.

Former India defender Pereira resigned from his post after steering Mahindra United to the local league crown for the third year in-a-row due to "personal reasons".

Speculation was rife that Booth was going to become the new coach of Mahindra United after his departure from Mumbai FC, but his appointment was officially confirmed only on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old Booth was in charge of Mahindra United during his first spell in 2003-04, guiding the club to three titles (Federation Cup, Super Cup and the Mumbai League).

Booth is an experienced international coach, having served as the national coach of Myanmar and Brunei.

He has also worked in the UK, Ghana, Vietnam, Thailand and the Maldives and has enjoyed prolonged stints with leading clubs.

The Englishman later helped Mumbai FC navigate their way from division two to the top division of the I-League within one year of its formation.
