David De Gea to Real Madrid: Twitter hail Man Utd’s Ed Woodward for ‘sabotaging’ deal

David De Gea’s £29m move from Manchester United to Real Madrid seems to have collapsed after the necessary paperwork wasn’t submitted on time. Apparently, the papers arrived a little too late. While it’s the norm in England to give clubs some extra time to conclude transfers, there’s no such precedence in Spain.

On Monday, Manchester United let a host of players leave. Mexico striker Javier Hernadez joined German side Bayer Leverkusen, Adnan Januzaj moved to Borussia Dortmund for a season long move, goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard joined West Brom and Tyler Blackett agreed a season-long deal with Celtic.

But by far the biggest news was the De Gea deal, which we were led to believe was confirmed but neither of the clubs has made an official announcement about the transfer. Reports in Spain blamed United for the deal collapsing.

United on the other hand claim they have a receipt to prove that they submitted the relevant documents on time. The Manchester United faithful, who’ve become accustomed to losing their best players to Madrid, and others had a field day on Twitter as they hailed Ed Woodward – the evil genius.
