West Indies legend Brian Lara expects Windies' cricket to survive despite BCCI's damages lawsuit

West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara is expecting his country's cricket to survive a potential 26.2 million pounds lawsuit threatened by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The BCCI expects to recoup losses sustained when West Indies ended their tour of the country early in October due to a pay dispute. However, Lara believes that BCCI would not be that severe on them.

Lara said that he believes West Indies cricket would be alive, adding that he doesn't think anybody has the intention to end their game, The BBC reported.

Lara, who played 131 Tests and scored 11,953 runs, says that the cost of the threatened legal action is way beyond West Indies cricket. But while the BCCI outlined their desire to play a positive role in resolving the issue in a recent letter to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), they also stated that they would use the fullest extent permissible in the law when making their case.

Lara, who retired from the international game in 2007, also said that there are implications and he believes the WICB has found itself in this situation because they have not learned from the past.

He said that there have been many little quarrels between players and board but it's the first time the WICB are perhaps facing something as severe as this.

Lara said that they have got some of the best talents in the world so he believes West Indies cricket is going to survive and it's now about how they take this forward.
