WWE Fast Lane results: Roman Reigns beats Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose; AJ Styles defeats Jericho

WWE's pre-Wrestlemania Pay Per View Fast Lane has concluded from Ohio and will be telecast on Ten Sports at 6 pm.

WWE Fast Lane, emanating from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio on Monday, saw some surprising results and some predictable ones.

1) Kalisto v/s Alberto Del Rio (US Title): Kalisto was expected to win to strengthen his stock in the WWE and he did. It was a two-out-of-three falls match which saw Kalisto win the first fall, Alberto Del Rio the second and Kalisto the third to win the match 2-1. This was the match telecast on the pre-show.

Winner: Kalisto

2) Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks v/s Team B.A.D.: Surprisingly, the Divas match began the Fast Lane PPV. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch had established an uneasy alliance of late. The storyline hinted that Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch would need each other to win to keep themselves strong. They both saved each other from taking a loss as a team. They also never turned on each other. It turned out to be a good match and a triple threat for the title between these two and Charlotte at Wrestlemania seems to be on the cards.

Winners: Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks

3) Kevin Owens v/s Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Title): This was a good back and forth match which saw both competitors get in a lot of offense. The crowd, which simply wasn't very interested in the match to begin with, was chanting 'This is Awesome' by the time it ended. Kevin Owens won with a quick pop-up powerbomb, and later on promised to make Wrestlemania 'KOMania'.

Winner: Kevin Owens

4) Big Show, Kane and Ryback v/s The Wyatt Family - Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman (with Bray Wyatt): This was the shock of the night as the Wyatt Family were defeated in the ring despite the presence of Strowman. Strowman was kept addling in around the ring with some big moves from all three faces, and in the end Ryback pinned Luke Harper following a Shell Shocked. I am shell shocked they didn't have the Wyatts win, will they win at Wrestlemania and against whom?

Winners: Big Show, Kane and Ryback

5) Charlotte (With Ric Flair) v/s Brie Bella (Divas Title): The emotional win could have been Brie's because of Daniel Bryan's retirement. But WWE chose the predictable path, keeping the title on Charlotte. And this makes sense too, because Charlotte can now have a strong triple threat match against Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks at Wrestlemania, where the title will be dropped to Lynch.

Winner: Charlotte

6) Chris Jericho v/s AJ Styles: They're already milking this feud dry, what will they do for Wrestlemania? Jericho and Styles had had two matches already, but never on a PPV. They put up a stellar performance. There were moments in this match you outright feared for Styles' well being. It was dangerous. Jericho in his 40s couldn't keep up with Styles but managed to do well enough. Jericho kicked out of a Styles Clash, but then had to submit to the Calf Crusher. After the match, Styles asked for one more match but had his hand shaken by Jericho.

Winner: AJ Styles

7) R-Truth v/s Curtis Axel (with the Social Outcasts Adam Rose, Bo Dallas and Heath Slater): This was the toilet break match of the evening, before the main event. Of course, Rose, Dallas and Slater interfered. But in a little twist, Goldust came out to help Truth and attacked all three non-competing Social Outcasts members. However, R-Truth was distracted and got rolled up by Curtis Axel for the win. Later on, Goldust tried to apologise and got scolded by R-Truth.

Winner: Curtis Axel

8) Roman Reigns v/s Dean Ambrose v/s Brock Lesnar: This was for the No 1 contendership for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Ambrose and Reigns had agreed earlier on that their relationship would never be the same after this match. 

During the match, Ambrose and Reigns spent a lot of time beating up Brock Lesnar, who kept getting back up. They also hit a spear and a Dirty Deeds on Brock, who kicked out. Ambrose and Lesnar had their own little feud in between the match, and Brock thrashed Ambrose pretty bad before Reigns saved him.

After disposing off Lesnar for a while by driving him through the Spanish announce table, Ambrose and Reigns faced off, with Ambrose clearly the crowd favourite. Reigns was booed throughout the match. But eventually, he ate up a few chair shots by Ambrose and won the exchange with Lesnar. He then speared Ambrose, pinned his friend and predictably became the No 1 contender - to a round of booing. After the match, WWE World Champion Triple H came out and had a staredown with Reigns.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Overall, it was an average PPV which did not really feel like a special event. Most matches were reasonably good but none had a real big match feel, and Roman Reigns predictably winning was a let down for many wrestling fans.
