PUBG Mobile India update: No permission given by MEITY yet for operating in country

For the last one month, there has been tremendous excitement on the relaunch of PUBG Mobile game. After being banned for close to three months in the wake of the tensions between India and China at the Galwan valley in Ladakh, PUBG Corporation announced that PUBG Mobile India would soon be relaunched. With plenty of teasers and social media speculations, it was expected that the game would be launched soon. However, that has not happened and the main reason is there has been no official notification from the Central Government. More specifically, there has been no clearance from MEITY.

What is MEITY? The MEITY stands for Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This was the Ministry that had banned over 100 Chinese apps. According to a report from InsideSport, there is still no permission. The MEITY official quoted by Inside Sport said that there has been no change in the stance that was taken in September at this stage.

However, in recent reports, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs gave the approval for the registration of the company PUBG India Private Limited. According to a report in Gadgets Now, PUBG India private limited is listed on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs website. It has a Corporate Identity Number of U72900KA2020FTC141285 which suggests that PUBG Mobile India is one step away from making a grand comeback. The corporate office is located in Tata Silk Farm in Bangalore. However, that is not enough.

“Any banned entity can’t operate just by floating new company. Even Tik Tok or anyone else can do that. They will have to get permissions from MEITY to operate once again in India,” the MEITY official told InsideSport

PUBG Mobile India different from global

What will be different for PUBG Mobile in India as compared to the global version? Well, it begins straight from the name. The name of the game in India will be PUBG Mobile India while in the global market, it will just be PUBG Mobile. According to reports, there are changes in the gameplay for the Indian market. The developers have apparently revealed that there will be not be too much bloodshed shown and the dresses and characters will be according to Indian sensibilities.

According to several reports, KRAFTON, which is a collective of independent game development teams responsible for various entertainment properties like PUBG and TERA have tied up with Microsoft Azure.

How does this development impact PUBG Mobile India? It is a massive development on the security front. Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing service created by Microsoft for building, testing, deploying, and managing applications and services through Microsoft-managed data centers. Microsoft Azure manages the computing and storage of resources on Microsoft’s data centers and this is what primarily keeps the data, such as servers and user information, secure.

With no Chinese entity in PUBG Mobile India, it seems that it might be a matter of time before the permission is given but government bureaucracy might operate in it’s own way even in modern times.
