The average home is approximately 30m from end to end, give or take a few, depending on your income, and networking the whole are can be troublesome at times. Sure, most routers these days are powerful enough to carry your WiFi signal to all the rooms with ease, but it’s the little things that niggle at your patience. Your phone WiFi drops to just two bars when you choose to sit on that particular corner of your bed. You have to place your smart TV against that wall, and nowhere else, because that’s the only way it picks up the signal. The only way to fix that iis a WiFi range extender, and those are a hassle to configure.

Enter Edimax. We got to try out the Edimax BR-6228nS V3, which is a five-in-one wireless router, that aims to be the most convenient connectivity option to use, as well as the most efficient. Aside from being used as a general purpose wireless internet router, this device can be set up as an access point, range extender, a wireless bridge or a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider). And you can switch the Edimax between any of these modes on the fly, no need to reconfigure each time. Simply connect to the router via your laptop or smartphone, open https://edimax.setup in your browser, login as administrator, and choose a mode of operation. You can also set up your router with up to five SSIDs.

The Edimax BR-6228nS is an N150 802.11 b/g/n router, weighing about 230g. It’s UFO-like design, with mean front grill, makes it look a little fancier than your average router, although that seems like a waste. After all, a great router is one you don’t even have to glance at once it’s been set up. And that’s the case with the Edimax. Setting it up is a breeze, taking all of five minutes to have ready to go. But, you say, what about someone who doesn’t know how to set up a router. Well have no fear. Even for the average Joe, setting up this baby will be a piece of cake. All you have to do is open the link mentioned in the manual, to begin the setup process, and then follow the on-screen instructions. If you know enough to know that you want a range extender, and not the default router setting, then you’ll be just fine. If you don’t know the difference, odds are you’re just trying to setup a router anyway right?

The Edimax BR-6228nS is a great investment, whether for home use or the office. It’s multifunction features mean you can adapt it to whatever situation you need in record time, and it definitely seems reliable, at least so far. The Edimax 150N BR6228nS V3 is available from Savera Marketing in India and you can purchase it from Snapdeal for an MRP of Rs 1,999.
